Gertrude (Dougherty) Sandova, 94, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, at Moravian Manor Communities in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Born in Delano, Schuylkill County, Gertrude was the daughter of Francis P. and Alice (Blew) Dougherty. A proud graduate of Delano High School's Class of 1950, she pursued her passion for helping others by attending the Hazleton State General Hospital School of Nursing. She dedicated ten years to her career as a nurse at Geisinger Hospital in Danville, PA, where her gentle care brought comfort to many.
Gertrude shared 56 years of marriage with her late husband, Joseph A. Sandova. She and Joseph settle in Hokendauqua, Whitehall Township, PA, where she lived for 50 years. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her profession as she embodied the principle of "love thy neighbor" throughout her life.
She was a devoted mother to her daughter Debora Mengoni and son-in-law John. Her cherished grand-dog Peanut brought her great joy. Gertrude is also fondly remembered by her niece June Arnold and numerous other nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; siblings John Dougherty Sr., Alice Wienelowicz, Mary Dembitz, Kathryn Hogg, Elizabeth Hoffman, Anna Kesseg, Frances Yanalavage, and Helen Geisler; as well as her nephew John Dougherty Jr., niece Grace Cady, and several other nieces and nephews.
Gertrude found strength and comfort in her faith. She had an enduring love for animals and treasured the companionship of many beloved cats throughout her life.
Gertrude's legacy is one of kindness and selflessness. May those who mourn find peace in remembering the love she so freely gave and the joy she brought into their lives. And remember it's not good bye, just "see you later."
Private burial with her husband Joseph at the convenience of the family at Saint Peter's United Church Cemetery, 130 Church Street, Barnesville, Pennsylvania
