Ernest C. Sullenberger

Ernest C. Sullenberger, 85, of Leola, passed away on August 20, 2026. He was the husband of Ruth Anne (High) Sullenberger, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harold and Aleta Graybill Sullenberger.

Ernie had a 45-year career in banking, working with M&T Bank as well as other institutions.

He was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and the University of Virginia Graduate School of Consumer Banking.

He was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where he served on several committees. He was a huge Phillies fan, enjoyed visiting the beaches of New Jersey and Delaware, loved to read and solve sudoku puzzles.

In addition to his wife, Ernie is survived by his children, Laura McCallum (Patrick), David Sullenberger (Jennifer), Heather Lilly (Jason) and Heidi McDonough (Tom); his eight grandchildren, Erin, Avery, John, Jacob, Jack, Connor, Lincoln, and Savannah; and his sister, Gloria Smith. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold, Joann Geiger, Robert, and Donald.

Friends will be received by his family on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 11 a.m. to noon at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA, with a Memorial Service to follow at noon. Interment will follow in St Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
