Ellen Parker Harvey, 77, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Lancaster General Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Parker Harvey and Ann (Crowthers) Harvey Morgan. She was the loving wife of Warner W. Zipf.
Music and singing were Ellen’s greatest passions. She was a proud member of the Pelham Larks acapella group in Westchester, NY. She shared her beautiful voice in the choir at The Congregational Church UCC in Tryon, NC. She also rang in both the church hand bell choir there, and later in the Willow Bells, and sang with the singing group “Here Comes Treble” after moving to Willow Valley Communities.
Ellen had a love of travel, especially her cherished trips to Cape Cod, MA. She found peace and happiness tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and could often be found with a good book in hand. A gifted writer, proofreader and thoughtful storyteller, she helped edit books for a business consulting group and wrote columns for the Tryon Daily Bulletin. She would also interview fellow church members to help write their biographies that would later be published. Ellen was an animal lover, especially her many cats and her Dachshund, Hannah. She appreciated fine food and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Warner Zipf; her brother, John B. Harvey, husband of Ann; her niece and nephews, Sarah Parker Harvey, Rev. Dr. Lewis Calvin Lane III and his wife Denise, William Andrew Lane and his wife Meghan; and her great niece and nephew, Daniel and Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick Parker Harvey and Ann Crowthers Harvey Morgan, and her brother, Frederick Crowthers Harvey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in Ellen’s name instead.
