Elizabeth Means Ehrgood

Elizabeth Means Ehrgood passed away at the age of 106 on Monday, April 27, 2026, at The Glen at Willow Valley. She previously lived in York and Lebanon, Williamsport and York. “Betsy” as she was known shared 55 years of marriage with her husband, Peter Witmeyer Ehrgood, before his passing on October 4, 1998.

Born in Lebanon, PA, Betsy was the daughter of the late W. Horace and June (Zimmerman) Means. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and was a middle school teacher for Central York School District early in her life.

While living in York, Betsy and Peter worshipped at Luther Memorial Evangelical Church and enjoyed golfing at York Country Club. When she moved to Willow Valley, Betsy worshipped at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster, and then at the chapel in Willow Valley.

She was a world traveler, visiting much of Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and most of the United States. She also enjoyed cruising and relaxing at their beach house in Seaside Park, New Jersey.

An accomplished bridge player, Elizabeth and her son Horace played on-line and was successful almost until the end. Betsy with her sister and their husbands were “extras” in the motion picture, “Honey, I Blew Up the Kids” directed by Randal Kleiser of “Grease” fame.

Betsy’s family includes her son Horace M. Ehrgood of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Kristin Ehrgood Nikitine, wife of Vadim of Washington, D.C., Diane Toman, wife of Kevin of Shalotte, NC, Ian Means Ehrgood, husband of Alyssa of Lebanon, PA, Rebecca Lauren Ehrgood and her significant other Chad Keefer of Pittsburgh, PA; and 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Peter, Betsy was preceded in death by their son Peter W. Ehrgodd, Jr., in 2017, and their daughter Katharine Ehrgood Sturm in 2019, and her siblings, William H. Means, Jr., Harriet Kelly Means Kleiser, and David H. Means.
