Elaine J. Lahr

Elaine J. (Wilczewski ) Lahr, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with her devoted husband of 60 years, John Lahr, by her side. Their long and loving marriage was a testament to partnership, devotion, and quiet strength.

Born in Jersey City and raised in North Bergen, New Jersey, Elaine was the daughter of Chester and Christine Wilczewski. She grew up alongside her three sisters, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and enduring family bonds.

In addition to her husband, John, Elaine is survived by her cherished daughter, Jennifer Lahr English, and son-in-law, Edward English, of Needham, Massachusetts, and their three children, Teddy, Remy, and Addie. Elaine adored her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and were the center of her world. She treasured every visit, milestone, and moment they shared together.

Elaine is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Sandra Boatti and her husband, John, of Pequannock, New Jersey, and Joann Harden of Mahwah, New Jersey, as well as many dear nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Doris C. Dziubek; Doris's husband, Larry Dziubek; and her nephew, Christopher Dziubek, of Wayne, New Jersey. She carried each of them in her heart throughout her life.

Although her New Jersey roots were always a cherished part of her identity, Elaine and John came to embrace Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as home over the past 30 years. They were the proud stewards of the beloved Osceola Mill House Bed & Breakfast in Intercourse before settling in the City of Lancaster, where they formed lasting friendships with neighbors, guests, and members of the community. They also enjoyed spending many of the colder months in Naples, Florida, where they shared a wonderful circle of friends.

Elaine had a long career with M&M Mars as an accountant and financial planner. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit, generous heart, and remarkable talent at cards and dominoes. She loved her family above all else, but also found great joy in reading, traveling, and discovering new places and experiences. She had a special love of gardening and found peace and happiness among her flowers.

In her final days, Elaine was blessed with an exceptional team of caregivers whose compassion, skill, and kindness brought her comfort and dignity. Her family is deeply grateful for the loving care she received.

Elaine will be remembered for her warmth, quiet grace, unwavering love for her family, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, from 10:00-11:30 at St Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 AM. The rite of committal will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 3rd at 9:00 AM.
