Edward S. "Pop" Althouse, 87, of Strasburg, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Gap, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert and Mary (House) Althouse. He was the devoted husband of Linda (Derr) Althouse, with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage.
He was a 1956 graduate of Southern Lancaster County Joint High School, Quarryville, PA. Ed served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959, as well as three years in the United States Army Reserves. He was a carpentry instructor at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster for over 21 years.
Ed was active in the local community, having served as president of the Strasburg Fire Company, a charter member of the Strasburg Ambulance Association, where he served for over 25 years, and as a Supervisor for Strasburg Township for 6 years.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his children: Gina Spencer of Quarryville, Ed Althouse Jr., husband of Traci of Conestoga. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Angie (Mike), Kelly (Danny), Danielle (Jordan); three great-grandchildren: Austin, Emily, and Amelia; sister, Gerry Mallison of Manheim, PA, two brothers, Dale Althouse, husband of Caroline of Quarryville, PA, and Jim Althouse, husband of Max of Sarasota, FL.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Interment will follow in New Providence Mennonite Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 9-11 AM at the funeral home on Friday.
