Donald W. Mahoney, 90, formerly of Conestoga, PA, passed away peacefully at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Don shared 67 years of marriage with his wife Johanne E. (Henry) Mahoney before her passing on December 20, 2024.
He was born in Lancaster, PA, the son of the late Roland D. and Esther (Wissler) Mahoney. He graduated from East Lampeter High School, Class of 1954. Don served in the US Army with the 3rd Armored Division based in Fort Knox, KY, and was stationed in Kirch-Göns, Germany right after the Korean War.
Don worked several jobs during his career including Vallorbs Jewel Company, Trojan Yacht, owner of the Flying “A” gas station on Columbia Avenue from 1959-1961, as a machinist for Alcoa from 1962-1987, followed by PGT Industries in Nokomis, FL, as salesman and Regional Manager, and then after retiring at Lancaster Dodge delivering parts.
He was a member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street. Don and Johanne enjoyed extensive traveling. Don belonged to the Millersville V.F.W. Post 7294. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, having fished at Kodiak Island, Lake Erie, and Gowan Reservoir in Northern Canada. He hunted for caribou at Fort Chimo, Canada, and elk on the Continental Divide in Montrose, CO.
Don’s family includes his five children, Dona J. wife of Donald Reynolds of New Providence, PA, Susan E. wife of Stacy Wagaman of Mountville, PA, Douglas H. Mahoney, husband of Patricia (Gregg) of Conestoga, Jeffrey R. Mahoney, husband of Lori (Grissinger) of Conestoga, and Stephen B. Mahoney, husband of Natalie (Wray) of Huntersville, NC; as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by his brothers, R. Jerry Mahoney and Bernard J. Mahoney.
There will be a celebration of life for Don on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Don’s family will greet guests from 10 to 11 am, followed by the ceremony at 11 am, with The Rev. Mike Sigman officiating. A private interment will be at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
