Diane S Warfel

Diane S. Warfel, 74, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Born in Lancaster, Diane was the daughter of the late Earl and Betty (Harsh) Barley. She was the devoted and loving wife of Larry Warfel, with whom she shared more than 53 years of marriage.

A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Diane attended business school and began her career at 20 years old, working in the Lancaster City Mayor's Office. On March 17, 1973, she married Larry and they began their life together in Panama where Larry was stationed on a military base.

Diane was a lifelong and dedicated member of Faith United Church of Christ; she faithfully served as a member of the choir and built countless treasured friendships within the congregation.

Professionally, Diane spent 23 years as an executive secretary at Alumax, where she earned the affectionate nickname "Lady Di" from her coworkers. She was known for her vibrant spirit, genuine empathy, and warm smile that made everyone feel welcome. Diane had a remarkable ability to brighten any room and leave others feeling valued and appreciated.

She embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Diane loved music and dancing, whether she was snapping her fingers on the dance floor during happy hour with friends or enjoying performances by some of her favorite artists, including Whitney Houston, The Four Tops, Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Billy Joel.

Family was Diane's greatest joy. She loved spending long summer days at the beach surrounded by those she loved most. A perfect beach day always included Mack's Pizza, Seashell Ice Cream, laughter, and time together. Those memories will forever be treasured by her family.

Diane’s family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hamilton Arms, 2 High, for the exceptional care she received over the last two and a half years. During her time there, Diane formed close bonds with the staff, who truly embraced her as family and filled her final years with love.

In addition to her beloved husband, Larry, Diane is survived by her son, Ryan Warfel, husband of Elizabeth, of Wilmington, Delaware; her daughter, Adrienne Sheely, wife of Jason, of Lancaster; and her cherished granddaughters, Emma and Isabella Warfel. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Kranz, wife of Dennis; her brother, Bruce Barley; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A Celebration of Diane's Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Faith United Church of Christ, 1204 Wabank Road, Lancaster, PA 17603. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Private interment will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diane's memory to Friends of Diane Walk to End Alzheimer's, or to Faith United Church of Christ at the above address.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23
