David L. Hanning, 92, of Lititz Pennsylvania and formerly Marion, Zanesville and Mansfield, OH, Satellite Beach, FL, and Huntsville, AL. He passed away on October 2, 2026, in the Luther Acres Retirement Community. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Jevas) Hanning, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Born in Marion, OH in 1934, he was a son of the late Charles LeRoy & Helen (LaRue) Hanning and brother to Nanette Weir and Beth Sherman.
David, a graduate of Marion Harding and Valparaiso Technical Institute was an electrical engineer with Magnavox, RCA, Hartman Electric, ITT and later SCI. He served in the Army as a Specialist 4 Radio Operator with the 3rd Infantry Division from 1957 to 1959. He was an avid ham radio operator, call sign KD4FY, and had electronic designs and patents on multiple Amed Forces and NASA systems. He loved sailing, bird watching and was an avid cyclist into his 80's. His family and friends remember him best for his unique sense of humor and love for family.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his three sons and their wives, David & Donna Hanning, Christopher & Christine Hanning, and Todd & Beth Hanning. Also grieving David's passing is his sister, Beth Hanning and his grandchildren, Erica Hanning, Evelyn (Matt) Burttram, Logan (James) Hanning, Kelly Hanning, John Hanning, Christopher Norris and Marcus Norris.
David will be laid to rest in his hometown Marion Ohio and funeral services will be held privately at David's request.
