Daniel (Dan) Larry Holsinger, 76, entered into rest on Thursday, February 6, 2026, at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born at Oyster Point on the Marietta Pike in Lancaster, PA, on November 24, 1949, Dan was the son of Harry S. Holsinger and Barbara Leinart Holsinger. He was a lifelong member of the Mountville Church of the Brethren, where he was baptized at age seven. Throughout his youth, he was active in the church choir, youth fellowship, and many other church activities.
A 1968 graduate of Hempfield High School, Dan was a registered conscientious objector and completed two years of 1-W service at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He later worked for Turkey Hill Mini Markets and Carlos Leffler Service Co. as a convenience store manager.
Dan loved music—especially Christian music and hymn songs—along with his cats, good conversation, and time spent with friends and family. He had a natural gift for storytelling, often embellishing moments to bring laughter and entertainment. He enjoyed prime rib, communion bread, and sweets.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Dan had a remarkable talent for decorating and staging both indoor and outdoor spaces. He saw spaces not as they were, but as they could be, guided by an instinct for beauty and celebration. He had an instinct for beauty and celebration. Christmas was his favorite season. One year he decorated 55 Christmas trees. Under his pen name, Dante, he expressed his creative flair. He also assisted with weddings, funerals, and special events alongside his beloved life-partner, Rick Himmelright, through Rick’s Catering. For 25 years, Dan and Rick built both a life and a business together. They created celebrations that reflected their shared love of beauty and hospitality. Rick provided the culinary foundation; Dan brought atmosphere and personality. Their partnership blended precision and pageantry. Those who knew them understood they were at their best together, and the loss of Rick in 2025 marked a quiet turning point for Dan.
Dan is survived by his children: Kimberly Holsinger of Midway Park, NC; Brian Holsinger (Victoria) of East Petersburg; and Jason Holsinger (Liz) of Portland, Maine. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Joshua Holsinger, Kayllie Eden, Emily Sanford, Meagan Polk, and Abby Holsinger; and great‐grandchildren Gabriel Eden, Khari Polk, and Genevie. Additional survivors include his brother John Leinart Holsinger (Janice L.), former wife Sara Bushong Holsinger, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his life-partner, Rick Himmelright; brothers Kenneth B. Holsinger (Lottie) and Philip Holsinger (Judy); sisters Lois Booth (Paul), Gladys Zimmerman (Warren), and Betty Martin (Arthur); his grandson Ryan Whalen.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at Mountville Church of the Brethren, 60 Clay Street, Mountville, PA, on Saturday, March 28, at 1:00 p.m. In true Dan fashion, there will be a time of sharing “Dan stories” and enjoying some of his favorite foods.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dan’s honor to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or by calling 1-800-227-2345.
