Daniel Charles Good, MD, of Willow Street, passed away on July 15 at age 83 from complications of myasthenia gravis. He was the first-born son of the late Raymond C. and Eve Arlene (Reimold) Good. He was married for almost 60 years to Karen Forwood Good.
Dan graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School and F&M College. He received his medical degree from Temple University, followed by an internship at Geisinger Medical Center. He then studied neurosurgery in the Yale-Hartford program in Connecticut. In 1975 he returned to Lancaster and practiced neurosurgery at Lancaster Neurosurgery and Spine Associates.
Dan was a man of many interests. He loved classical music, art, science, bicycling, and travel. After his retirement he served on the board of the North Museum. Devoting much of his time to the Lancaster County Conservancy, he served 2 terms as board chair. He also learned to play the flute.
His fascination with astronomy and astrophotography led to many adventures with his friends John Yecker, Sandy Goodstein, Bob Hoover, Barry Greiner, the late Bruce Pipes, and many others. They shared trips to star parties and eclipses all over the world. He also had many astronomy friends and neighbors at the astronomy village in Chiefland, FL. Dan's articles and photographs were published in several magazines and textbooks.
He is survived by his four children, Benjamin Good of Pittsburgh; Laura Good, wife of Brad Granger; Emily Good, wife of Steve Cawley; and Ray Good, husband of Mary, all of Lancaster. He adored his Lancaster based grandchildren: Charlie and Anna Granger, Calvin, Elliot, Teddy Cawley, and Molly and Evan Good. He is also survived by his best friends and brothers Ronald and his wife Linda Good of St. James City, FL, and Ken and his wife Joanna Good of New Holland, PA.
Memorial Services will be held at 4PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Family and friends will be received from 2-4PM at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the North Museum or to Lancaster County Conservancy.
