Carolyn G. Walter, 89, of Willow Street, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026. Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania and raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Margaret (Klotz) Graeser. Carolyn made her home in Baltimore, Maryland with her late husband, William C. Walter.
Carolyn embraced an active and vibrant lifestyle embodied by her personal motto of “never stop moving”, but she had a particular passion for dancing making it both her favorite social activity as well as her vocation. With degrees from West Virginia University and Morgan State University, she served as a professor in the Kinesiology Department of Towson University for 40 years where she had her dream job of teaching ballroom dance to physical education majors. Following her retirement, she continued teaching dance at the Bykota Senior Center and the Oak Crest Senior Living Community in Baltimore. She relocated to the Willow Valley Retirement Community in 2018 to be close to her daughter and grandchildren, where she, of course, continued to teach ballroom dance.
In addition to dancing, Carolyn was an avid archer spending many years with her family at the Teela Wooket Archery Camp where she made many lifelong friends. For many years, she coordinated the Archery competition for the Maryland Senior Olympics.
When not on the dance floor, Carolyn enjoyed traveling the world and was able to visit all six populated continents. When she became physically unable able to travel or to dance, she remained socially active and never missed an opportunity to unwind with her cherished “5 o’clock girls” at Willow Valley.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Sam) Wachsman; two grandsons, Benjamin (Alyssa) Wachsman and John Wachsman; three great-grandchildren, Kora, Brielle, and Casey; and her cousin, Meredith Anstead, whom she lovingly regarded as a sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, and her sister, Jeanne Lawrence.
Friends and family will be welcomed from 1-3 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home and Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Team Gift of Willow Valley Communities at PNC Bank, 11 Long Lane, Willow Street, PA 17584.
