Carolyn "Lynn" Clarice Steedle

Carolyn Clarice “Lynn” Steedle, 95, of Trillium Place in Lancaster, passed away on July 27, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Ernest and Clara Strassburger. Lynn was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack G. Nye in 1961 and the Rev. Edgar H. Steedle in 2010; her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Charles Strasbaugh; her son, Brad Nye; and her stepdaughters, RuthAnn Steedle McAdams and Janet Steedle McCullough.

Lynn grew up in Woodhaven, Queens, NY. She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in 1948 and Millersville State Teachers College in 1952. She devoted 30 years to teaching young children in kindergarten and prekindergarten at Lafayette Elementary School in the School District of Lancaster.

Lynn embraced life’s simple pleasures and treasured time with her family. She loved traveling, especially her trips to Greece and China, and looked forward to summers in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She also enjoyed car rides, eating ice cream, and reading books to her grandchildren—memories her family will always cherish. Lynn also valued the friendships she formed over the years. She especially enjoyed sharing daily dinners with her friends at Woodcrest Villa and gathering for Friday breakfasts with her retired co-workers.

A member of Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, Lynn was active in the church’s outreach programs. She was previously a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Lynn was also a charter board member of the S. June Smith Center; a member of the Lancaster County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association; and a volunteer with Hospice of Lancaster County, now known as Hospice & Community Care.

Lynn is survived by her children, Timothy (Chris) Nye and Cathy (Barry) Heisey; her daughter-in-law, Lisa, wife of her late son, Brad; her stepson, William (Denise) Steedle; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. on August 22, 2026 at Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
