Beverly Dale Walker Knight,79, formerly from Lititz passed away April 22 at Masonic Village at Elizabethtown.
Born January 15, 1947, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania to Robert H. Walker and Margaret Jane Grant Walker Silvers she graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, Indiana in 1965 and enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of corporal of Marines. She later served as a technical sergeant in the U. S. Air Force Reserve and Pennsylvania Air National Guard. She drove school bus for Warwick and Ephrata schools and was most recently living at Masonic Village.
Beverly married a fellow Marine, Glenn B. Knight, from Lititz, on March 26, 1966 at Beaufort, South Carolina while they were both serving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this year at a party held for them by the family at Masonic Village.
They were blessed with a son, Christopher, of Rothsville, and a daughter, Marianne, Orrtanna, Pennsylvania. They have four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She loved to travel, read and crochet. Glenn is retired from the U. S. Air Force and their career took them, as a family to six states and a two-year assignment to Turkey. They spent 8 years after military retirement living in a motorhome traveling the country, working in numerous jobs and volunteering at National Parks. They both earned the volunteer recognition as Master Rangers.
Beverly was of the Christian faith, baptized into the Church of the Brethren. She last attended the Lititz Mennonite Church where she started the Peter’s Porch program. She also served as a Den Mother, was a Civil Air Patrol major and served two terms as President of the Pennsylvania Department of the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn, both children and all of her grand and great grandchildren. In addition she is survived by a brother, Michael Walker, Bellefonte, and a half-sister Leslie Ann Silvers White of Bedford, Indiana. She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother Richard, who was Michael’s twin.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family and she will be afforded full military honors.
