Beverly Ann Hofsass (nee Norden)

Beverly Ann Hofsass (nee Norden), 96, passed away Sunday, February 8, at Luther Acres, Lititz, PA. She was born August 20, 1929 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Harold and Lillian Sass Norden.

Beverly was salutatorian of the Hammond High School class of 1947. She later graduated from Valparaiso University and briefly taught home economics in Gary, Indiana.

On July 19, 1952, she married John August Hofsass, Jr. in Hammond. They resided in Guild Hall (Valparaiso) where Beverly was housemother.

They followed John’s career as a mechanical engineer, moving to NY, MI, OH, AL, NC and KY. During this time, Beverly was a homemaker, raising their 4 children. She was active at church with Vacation Bible School, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, quilting for Lutheran World Relief, altar guild and weekly Bible study. While living in Charlotte, Beverly tutored elementary students in reading after school integration first began.

In Lexington, Beverly was owner and manager of Mim’s Gift Shop. Along with her husband, she volunteered for Kentucky Harvest. The family was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 30 years.

After moving to Lititz, PA, Beverly joined Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was a member for 20 years. She was active in several ministries including visiting shut-ins, quilting for LWR, Napoli Refugee outreach and Red Hat Society.

Beverly’s interests included sewing, gardening, flower arranging, reading, baking, jigsaw puzzles and feeding birds.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is proceeded in death by her brother Loren Norden. Survived by brother Roger Norden; children Virginia Hyatt (Carl) of Prescott, AZ; Linda Wohlberg (John) of Douglassville, PA; Jeff Hofsass (Margaret) of Burke, Virginia; Susan Sneed (David) of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren Ben Wohlberg, Daniel Wohlberg (Emily); Andy Sneed, Emma Kay Grams (Drew) and step grandchildren Barrett Hawkins, Eric Wohlberg (Karen), Janice Austen (Hudson); and several nieces, nephews and step great grandchildren.

Visitation is Wednesday, February 11 at 10 am, Charles F Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Beverly will be interred with her husband at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Jessamine County, Kentucky. Memorials may be sent to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd, Lititz, PA 17543.
