Arlene Hoober Clark, of Brethren Village and formerly Smoketown, PA passed away peacefully at 92; on May 25, 2026. With limited sight, hearing, and mobility, she often said she was ready for heaven. She joins her husband Lloyd E. Clark, who preceded her in 2014. Arlene was the daughter of the late Elvin K. Bare and Evelyn (Hoober) Bare and the stepdaughter of Marian (Hershey) Bare. She will be missed by her children Donna Clark of Lancaster, Debbie Nixon and the late Robert Nixon of Stevens, and Fred Clark married to Beth (Biechler) Clark of Lancaster. Arlene was greatly loved by her four grandchildren. Michael Nixon of Ephrata, Melissa wife of Nathan Thompson of East Petersburg, Audrey wife of Andrew McClune of Lancaster, and Gene Clark husband to Kristy Mellinger of Lancaster. Arlene was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren: Mallory Nixon Mikey Nixon Adelynn Aument, Mason Clark, Anna McClune, Liam Clark, Clark McClune, Emma Aument, Timmy Clark, and Andrew Clark. She is survived by 3 brothers and a sister. Jacob Bare husband of the late Ruth Bare of Ephrata, Hershey Bare husband of Mary Ann of Lebanon, Harold Bare husband of Stella and the late Esther Bare, and Gloria Blank, wife of Paul of Bird In Hand. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Bare husband of Elva Bare of Lititz.
As a homemaker, she loved her flower gardens, her kitchen, and quilting. She enjoyed sharing her flowers and her food. She had many needlework hobbies, but hand quilting was her favorite. It was special to her to entertain family and friends at the cabin and made sure everyone had enough to eat. Travelling anywhere new was another favorite. Arlene helped Lloyd when he started Clark Associates by mending uniforms, treating everyone with baked goodies, and running errands.
Arlene was a long-time member of the Intercourse United Methodist Church.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life service at Brethren Village Chapel on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Visitation with the family will be at 10 AM and the service at 11 AM, followed by a light lunch in the Wolf Auditorium. The immediate family will hold a private interment.
