Arlene M Brittain

Arlene M. Brittain, formerly of Muncy, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 23, 2026 at Penn State Hospital in Landisville, Pennsylvania following a brief illness.  She was 92.

Born on December 13, 1933, in Minneola Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. Lies and Elenora Schwartz Lies. She graduated from Minneola High School in 1953. Shortly thereafter, she began her professional career with the FBI as a file clerk, a position that brought her to Washington D.C., where she met the love of her life, James Brittain. The two shared 63 years of marriage

Arlene and Jim were married on October 8, 1955 at the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy, Pennsylvania. She devoted her life to creating a loving and nurturing home for her family. Raised on a Kansas farm during the Great Depression, Arlene developed a strong work ethic and many practical skills including cooking, canning, gardening and sewing, all of which she faithfully passed on to her daughters.

Music was a cherished part of Arlene's life. Coming from a long line of talented musicians, she herself played the piano and sang. Arlene instilled this love of music in her daughters, each learning to play multiple instruments and sing. She also had a deep interest in genealogy and researching her family history.

After many years in Muncy, Arlene and Jim relocated to Augusta, Georgia to be near their daughter Valarie Kepner and her family. Following Valarie's passing in 2024, Arlene moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she resided at Oak Leaf Manor North, Landisville, PA.

Her faith was a guiding force during her life, providing strength, comfort and steadfast assurance.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James and her daughter, Valarie Kepner, as well as her parents, her sister, Naomi Foreman and her brother Rodney Lies. She is survived by her daughters Vicky Wheeland (Todd) of Globe, Arizona and Julia Brittain-Hulyo (Michael) of Lititz, PA, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Arlene will be laid to rest beside her husband James at the Muncy Cemetery, Muncy, Pennsylvania
