Ann N. Xakellis, 94 of Lancaster passed away on October 5, 2026 after a lengthy illness. Born at Pottsville, PA hospital, Ann was the daughter of Peter and Olga Nelson who emigrated from Greece. She was the loving wife of George Xakellis for 67 years
She grew up in Shamokin, PA where her father owned a restaurant. She graduated near to top of her class at Shamokin High School in 1949 where she was a member of the honor society. She completed college at Millersville University in 1952 where she graduated in 3 years with a degree in elementary education. She and George were married June 22, 1952, and after George completed his education, they settled in Lancaster, PA.
Ann taught elementary school for several years, but retired when she became pregnant with her first child. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Lancaster for more than 60 years. There she was a member of the Daughters of Penelope for more than 50 years where she held a number of offices including President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Ann was also active in Towne Club where she was a member for more than 25 years and also served as its President for a time. She was a member of the Iris Club for more than 15 years.
Ann is survived by her four children, George C. Xakellis, JR (Barbara) of Lancaster, Cynthia Xakellis Wiederholt of Arkansas, Christopher P. Xakellis II (Anne L) of Lancaster PA, and Michael G Xakellis (Lisa) of Lake Forest, IL. Ann has been blessed with 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by George C. Xakellis (husband) May 27, 2019.
Family, friends, and all those who loved Ann will be invited to attend the viewing to pay their respects with her family on October 18, 2026 from 7-9 PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Viewing will continue on October 19, 2026 from 9-10:30 AM with a Funeral Service to begin at 10:30 AM with Father Hector Firoglanis officiating at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster PA. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ann’s memory may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at the above address.
