Agnes V. Haines, 95, of Lancaster, passed away on August 13, 2026. Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late G. Edward and Sara T. (Fuller) Haines.
Agnes worked as a nurse at Coatesville Hospital for some years before her leg was amputated due to a courageous battle with cancer. She never let this define her, however, and made sure to keep up with her nieces and nephews, who often commented that she was the “strongest person they knew.” She was sociable and easygoing, striking up conversation with strangers and forming new friendships wherever she went. Devout in her faith, Agnes was also a longtime member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Lancaster. She was an avid knitter, embroiderer, and baker, and her chocolate chip cookies will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of trying them.
Agnes is survived by her nieces and nephews, Maureen (Wayne) Beiler, Monica Elbert, Eddie (Judy) Haines, Julie (Keith) Kirchner, and Scott Haines; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and extended cousins, all of whom she loved very much. She is preceded in passing by her siblings, Anne Elbert, Betty Shirk, Charlie Haines, and Bobby Haines; and her nephews Chris and Greg Elbert.
Agnes will be laid to rest at Saint Cecelia’s Catholic Cemetery in Coatesville at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Agnes Haines Memorial Fund.
