William Tell, Jr.
August 08, 2024
William Tell, Jr. passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Clifton, NJ, he was the son of the late Eleanor (Elmes) Tell and William Tell, Sr.
A graduate of Notre Dame High School followed by Mount St. Mary’s University, Class of 1968, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and shortly after earned his CPA, Bill (known as Billy by his golf buddies) was an accomplished individual known for his passion of golfing, traveling, boating, fishing, and the beach. His adventurous spirit and the twinkle in his eye were symbols of the calculated risks he was renowned for taking, all while maintaining a quiet and selfless nature as a giver to those around him without seeking recognition.

He leaves behind his children, William III, Logan, and Brianna, along with his grandchildren, Chloe, Marley, William IV. For over 23 years, Bill shared a loving companionship with Phyllis Salamo. He is also survived by his siblings, Sharon, Patrick, and Kathleen. Bill was preceded in death by his sister Pamela Tell-Elliott.

Phyllis, so very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. We enjoyed his and your company so much at the reunions. We shot a lot of pool together back in our college days and Bill always had a quick and lasting smile. He will be greatly missed. I hope the burden of your loss, lightens quickly, he would want that. Best regards, Chris and Jan Charnitski (MSM shirts)

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my friend, fellow CPA and classmate of the Class of 1968 at The Mount. Bill enjoyed a dry sense of humor, never met a challenge he didn’t fully attack and was a great friend of Mt. St. Mary’s College/University. Bill, you will be sorely missed, until we meet again.

My memory of Bill circles back to his trip to grand cayman years ago with me and two other friends. He asked me to pull over at a new construction area, took a pen to pad and wrote something down. When he got back in the car I asked what he did and he said he wrote down the phone number because he was going to sell them locks. To this day his locks are sold at A L Thompson hardware( their Home Depot). Same trip I was struggling with my golf game and lost Bill some money betting only to win it back four fold playing horseshoes. Most recently had a great meaningful chat with him at the Women’s US Open at LCC. You will be missed not only by family but by the numerous dear friends you had made during your time here on earth. Prayers are with his family.
