Wesley R. “Wes” Shuglie

Wesley R "Wes" Shuglie passed away at his home on May 14, 2011. His death was of natural causes and was unexpected. He is survived by Suk Shuglie, his wife of 31 years.

Wes was born on Dec 22 1941 in Greensburg Pa. He attended the University of Pittsburgh where he studied chemistry. During and after college Wes worked for Westinghouse where he held the title of Procurement Manager. This job took him to Korea where he met his wife Suk.

In 1981 Wes took a position with PP&L.  He and Suk moved to Lancaster County in 1981. At this time Wes worked for PP&L at Holtwood Power Plant. At Holtwood Wes was given an award for three years of Safe Production.

A loving and devoted husband, Wes supported his wife through art college and encouraged her to learn and improve her English language skills. He skillfully built beautiful frames for her art work as well as for many other friends and clients. He helped her establish her art gallery and encouraged her in continued art education.

After his retirement from PP&L he worked at his framing business from their home. He was very much a homebody. His hobbies were taking care of the lawn, growing flowers and vegetables and tending to his beloved goldfish in their pond. Another one of his favorite hobbies was cooking and grilling. He took pleasure in making meals and taking good care of his wife, as well as entertaining friends.

Wes will be missed by his friends, neighbors and most of all by his loving wife of 31 years. He is also survived by his 3 brothers: Bernie married to Christine Shuglie and Kenny married to Dolores Shuglie, both of Jeannette, PA, and Francis Shuglie of Pittsburgh.

Friends will be received by Suk and her family at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz,PA on Wednesday, May 18 2011 from 6-7:00PM, with the service to celebrate Wes’ life to follow at 7PM. I was just so sad when I read the paper this morning.  I saw Wes on Thursday when I picked up some beautiful framing he had done.  We talked about his garden, and his goldfish and many other topics.  He gave me some pepper seeds from his "Peter Pepper" plant and he and Vicki and I had a great laugh about it.  Wes was one of the most interesting, kind, generous people I have ever met.  So very talented and friendly – he will be missed greatly by everyone.  John and I will be thinking about you and all of Wes’ family and friends during this time.

Dear Suk,

We are just learning of Wes’ passing.  Our deepest sympathies to you on your loss.  I just spoke to Wes about a month ago when I was in to pick up a print.  Being raised in Greensburg myself, we were swapping stories about Pittsburgh and favorite eateries back home.  I believe you were back in Korea at the time but he spoke so fondly of you.

We shall will miss him too!

All our love,
Bob & Linda Miller & boys.

Dear Suk, Family and Vicki,
I was so saddened to hear of Wes’ death. I found him to be a generous, kind and caring man. It was always such a pleasure to talk to Wes. He cared deeply about his family and didn’t mind talking about you all with love. He and Vicki were a great team in framing art pieces – creative, professional and helpful. Every piece they framed was in itself a work of art!

Suk,
So sorry to hear about Wes. Don’t know if you remember us. I lived next door on Valley Road and had
four boys. You and Wes were always so kind to them. Have intended to stop in to see you and will try to do that. Have kept up with you a little when you are in the newspaper.
Blessings,
Karen Hackman Hastings

Our prayers and thoughts are with you as you say good bye to Wes and adjust to life without him.  We certainly enjoyed talking with Wes about Taiwan, good food and of course, great art and proper framing. May you experience peace and comfort.
Michael and Alonna Sprunger and family

Dear Suk,

I can only imagine what sadness you must feel.  My deepest condolences on your loss.  I loved listening to Wes when he’d share stories of your latest projects and adventures.  It showed in his voice how deeply he was in love with you.  He always told me you were the best thing that ever happened to him.  That made me so proud and happy for him.

Wes has been a good friend to me for most of my life.  He was never judgmental, always looking to the positive, always a word of encouragement.  He had a way of making folks laugh, something I like to try to do from his example.  I will forever appreciate the fact he kept in contact with my father Dan until he passed on.  Dad appreciated those calls so very much.

I will miss his calls and emails.  But I will never forget my friend.

My prayers are with you and your family Suk.

Best regards,
Cindy Gaich, Fayette City, PA

Suk,

I was saddened to hear about Wes.  I am only acquaintances with you, but fondly remember when you displayed your art work at the Willow Valley Cultural Center.  The two of you were such wonderful people and so giving of your time and talents.  Since that time I have met several local artists through the gallery at WV.  I have asked several of them who does their framing and the answer always goes back to "WES SHUGLIE".  Most times I can answer before they said it.  So many are so fond of the two of you.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Warm regards,

Jen Rynier

Suk and family, and Vicki,
My heart goes out to all of you. Wes will be greatly missed. He took such good care of my framing needs, but also was encouraging to me as an artist and an art business person. He was a generous soul, and always had a smile to give and warm friendship, along with his excellent quality work. Rudy and I will miss him. And all of you will be in our prayers.

Suk, Friends, and Family,

Wes was a delight to know and talk with and did an outstanding job of preparing canvas for any size paintings.

I’ll miss you Wes,
Jim Riley

Dear Suk-

I don’t know if you remember me.  I am a friend of Helena Dueck and used to work at the Estee Lauder counter at the Park City Bon-Ton.  I now live in Minnesota and my mother mailed Wes’s obituary and I was so shocked.  I remember being in your home and Wes did some framing for me and my mother.  He was such a nice man.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

With Deepest Sympathy,
Lori Buckwalter Klassen
