Tom Stauffer, 68
November 21, 2025
Tom Stauffer, 68, of Lititz, died Nov. 21 after a life that featured an outdoorsy childhood, a sparks-flying marriage, three lively kids, a career as a master craftsman, time behind the wheel of a succession of greasy Land Rovers, the endless chase of the perfect trout and the love of a good dog named Stanley.
The son of a toy designer who became a pewter maker and a take-no-prisoners mom, he was one of six kids who grew up hunting, riding mini bikes and roaming over the mountains of Juniata County and crabbing and swimming on the Eastern Shore.
He always worked with his hands, first as a brick mason, then a home builder and then a 17th and 18th century furniture maker. He was a meticulous perfectionist who also was a wiz at Super Gluing all of the stuff his crazy kids broke. He could fix anything. He was both unfailingly generous and super thrifty, fondly nursing along an ancient Volvo station wagon and family car that had 300,000 miles on it when he finally gifted it to a college student.
At home, Tom and his wife Cindy, both stubborn and opinionated, enjoyed 39 years of marriage that was never dull, always starting their day with a shared cup of coffee. Their children were Tom’s whole world – he walked them to school and picked them up when they were sick or had detention (hiding the last part from Cindy). He packed up their belongings in his work van and helped them move all over the country when they left home to make their own way in the world, waiting until he was driving away to cry. Each of them returned to Lititz to get married in the weeks after Tom was diagnosed with cancer so their dad could be part of their special day.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy, and his kids, Kate Mueller, wife of Andrew; Ben, husband of Trista; and Allison Lloyd, wife of Zack; three sisters, Kathy Yoder, Susie Leed and Deb Eidemiller; and a brother, Dave. His mom and dad, Tom and Betsy, and a brother, Jeff, preceded him in death.
How lucky we were to have him in our lives. In his memory, call your kids or someone you love “tutz” and then tell them to get back to work.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 29, in the fellowship hall in the Brothers House of the Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

So sorry to learn of Tom’s passing. I came to know him while working at TCO fly shop where he was one of my favorite customers. He gave my wife and I the most informative tour around his workshop when we were visiting Lititz. He will be missed – \

Oh Cindy and kids, I have no words to describe my heartbreak for you all as you live without Tom’s twinkling eyes, many jokes, morning coffee, cigar smoke and daily walks with Stan. He was everything you described and so much more! Missing him is an understatement. I will keep you all close to my heart and in my prayers in the days, weeks, and months to come. Carol Zartman

The friendship that Tom built over the years with the Lititz Borough Public Works crew will surely be missed. There was never a dull moment when we would pass by him or he would roll up to one of our work areas. Tom would go out of his way to say hello and chat for a few minutes. Some days I think he would drive around looking for a road closed barricade or street we were working on just so he could drive by and beep while yelling “what the hell you got going on now”. Throw his hands up and say “that’s the way I need to go”. Then smile and wave before driving off with a chuckle. Tom will definitely be missed. Seeing him around town was a pleasure. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Cindy, Kate, Ben, and Ali –
I am heartbroken to hear this. Tom was an incredible man and will be deeply missed. Our Woodridge Swim Team years would not be the same without him. While I am sure this obituary was hard to write, it perfectly captured the humor and origininality that was Tom Stauffer. Sending the absolute biggest hug to all of you.
Love,
Bonnie Daminger (Gray)

I am so sorry to hear this. Tom and Betsy were neighbors on Brubaker Valley Rd. The family was their whole world. The kids were a riot, always into something. Tom was way too young to leave us. My sincere condolences to the entire family. The lovely obituary shows how much Tom was loved and cherished. May he rest gently in the hearts and minds of all those whom he loved and loved him. i was so sorry to read of Tom’s passing. In the short time I knew him, he became a friend who I observed first hand settle for nothing short of perfection. I enjoyed his sense of humor as he, Gene and Doug set about restoration of my 18th century Germanic farm house. Later I had an opportunity to see that same work ethic and friendly greeting as I visited him in his shop. Don LeFever

Bryce and I always enjoyed looking to see if Tom was sitting on the side porch on our walks down Spruce. He always cracked a joke and had a big, mischievous smile on his face. His love for kids was evident when we had our boys with us, as his smile always bigger. We will remember him fondly and have Cindy, the kids and his whole family in our thoughts and prayers. What a gift it was to have this man be part of your lives! I’ll always think of him as the person who (with his accomplice …that’s you Cindy) convinced me to try a Rosie burger. May your memories be rich and provide comfort in the days and years to come.
