Joselito A. “Joe” A. Mendez passed away on December 9, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of George Mendez and Eva Rivera.
Susan J. Hewes-Mendez (Sue Enck) passed away on March 11, 2025. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Chester S. and Doris J. Enck.
Joe and I were inseparable…we balanced out each other in our views and our personalities and loved one another tremendously. I always thought it was God’s will for us to be together. We met at a horse Trail in the Poconos in 1988, began dating, and were married February 11, 1991.
In our younger years we were quite the travelers. We both enjoyed the ocean, any ocean, and all that came with it. We loved the feeling of the ocean air brushing against our faces, the sound of the beating waves along the shore, and the call of the hungry sea gulls, as well as the scent of salt water and tanning oil. It was then that we knew we were on vacation and relaxation was about to begin.
The years seemed to fly by and before we knew it, we were in our sixties. Unexpectedly and suddenly, we both faced health issues, and even at the end of our lives, we continued to care for one another.
Joe, you could not have been more kind, giving, and caring to me. You were so patient and calm. After you passed, I missed you so. But I knew that I would see you soon.
Thank you for all the wonderful years which we shared on this earth. And with God’s grace and mercy, I will see you and all my other loved ones once again. Hallelujah!
–Sue.

My condolescence to both families on the loss of Joe and Sue. I remember Sue from working in the lab. Sue always had a smile on her face and was a hard worker with a great personality.
Through loss, comes cherished moments we can hold onto. Joe and Sue will be those butterflies that will make us smile.
God Bless,
Sylvia

Sue and Joe were two of my favorite people. After my brother Marty died, Sue’s first husband, I was so happy that Sue found someone who would love her and she could love. Though we haven’t been in close contact recently, I will miss her and Joe.

My Love and sympathy to the families of Sue and Joe. They were an wonderful couple, devoted to one another and very much in love. I worked with Sue for 25 years and will always remember her as a brilliant, kind, helpful, and generous coworker. Sue and I were friends, we shared a birthday and a love of cats. I feel thankful and blessed that I knew Sue. I will always remember both Sue and Joe with fondness. They left this earth far too soon! But I believe they are together again in God’s heavenly kingdom.
