Steve was my best friend at Penn State and following that as a roommate in suburban Washington, D.C. and in Denver. Great friend with whom I have lost touch with over the years. It is just a coincident that I googled his name today and learned that I have lost a good friend.

This condolence goes out to not only Steve’s family, but to everyone who was lucky enough to have Steve in their lives. Everything I’ve read to this point was all about him as a co-worker but this is one from the neighbor aspect. I’ve lived next to Steve for a little over 12 years and within that time I can truly say that theres not that many people out there like him. We had this running joke of who was the best neighbor because we both knew that if the other needed help with anything, all we had to do was ask. sometimes we didn’t even have to do that, we just knew what the other needed and did it. It’s hard dealing with having a neighbor you could swap stories with and never hear the same one twice only to have it end so suddenly. He didn’t mention his health to me because he didn’t want me to take that much time out of my life for him which i gladly would have. I so wish I din’t have to find you like that, but I hope your able to R.I.P.

My sincere condolences to the Gutzwiller family. Steve was a wonderful guy.
I have very fond memories of Steve. Some twenty years ago, I made the mid-life move to Lancaster from the metropolitan New York area to help care for my older parents. It was a difficult transition. Into that void stepped our resident computer wizard, who was probably my first true friend here. He had an encyclopedic mind, sharp wit and a sense of humor that could not help but make you smile. Our conversations on our walks around the building at morning break time were often the highlight of my day.
The highest compliment I can pay Steve is that he had an inexhaustible curiosity about our world and an endless desire to learn new things. It was something I had somehow lost along the way, but that was rekindled during the years we worked together, a priceless gift from a very good friend. The day he retired I remember telling him, “Now I know how Hawkeye felt when Trapper John went home.” He is dearly missed.
Peace my brother. Looking forward to that next great conversation we will have someday.
With great sympathy and warmest regards,
Jim Meyers

To the Gutzwiller Family,
My deepest sympathies on your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going through. Steve was my coworker during my short time at Goodwill Keystone Area. He was a kind soul willing to take me under his wing and show me the ropes, even though “He was only a Lancasteran” (in his own words).
I will pray that his soul may rest in peace, and that your family may find peace.
Sincerely,
~Joe R.

My condolences to Steve’s family. I thoroughly enjoyed my years of working with Steve. He was the type of person who would always bring a smile to your face. Steve was a wealth of knowledge with off the wall facts and loved telling one of his stories.
