Sophocles George Manos, 69
July 04, 2025
Sophocles George Manos, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Friday, July 4, 2025.
He is fondly remembered by many as George or “Doonie”. During his working career, he was a comptroller for many hotels throughout the east coast, but his favorite job landed him working side by side on several golf courses with his son as his “boss”. He was an experienced and talented drummer and was part of a local band, Wolfepack. He loved his bandmates and the weekly practices, as they attempted to perfect that classic rock sound. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren and was ever present in their lives and attending their events.
Sophocles is survived by his wife Kimberly, daughters Melissa (Felix Butler) and Nicole, son George (Madison), grandchildren Cassidy, Kaylena, Athena and Adonis, sister Kris Minnix, loving brother-in-law of Donna Lamos (Al), Amy Dimond (Kevin), Tom Towey (Dina), Robert Towey (Chris), John Towey, many cousins, nieces and nephews. He has tons of friends, near and far, many of those lifelong friends.
He was known as a quiet man, that loved a good Vodka while watching his beloved Eagles or Phillies, listening to his extensive playlist of music, music videos, or listening to his books on tape. He enjoyed beach vacations and sitting at the water’s edge for hours, holiday events and evenings watching TV and the next great series. He joins the eternal rest with his parents George and Anastasia, grandparents and many aunts and uncles.
Please join a celebration of his legacy at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz Pike, Lititz PA 17543, on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Viewing will take place from 3:00- 5:00 PM followed by a brief service and blessing. In his honor, please feel free to wear your Eagles, Phillies or golf attire. In leu of flowers consider, donating to the Healing Journey at Lancaster Cancer Center, 703 Lampeter Road, Lancaster PA 17602, Hospice & Community Care, P.O. I was so sorry to learn of Dooney’s passing this morning. May your happy memories ease the pain of your loss.
I was part of the “corner gang” and I dated a good friend of his thus spent many high school nights with him. Aunt Catherine Ellen was my godmother so although we were FB friends last saw you at her holiday open house .

DOONIE was one of a kind always going out of his way to talk to those he knew, sharing a warm hug and kiss. Baseball games, picnics, parties, house hopping after games will never be forgotten. Watching all our kids grow up and seeing how wonderful they’ve all become has been so so special. Still remember the first day we met on the bleachers at the kids baseball game. “Wait what was his name?Doonie” did we catch that right? Yep there’s no one like DOONIE kind, warm hearted, caring and certainly devoted to all his family and friends. GO EAGLES. GO PHILLIES. we sure did share the love of those two teams. Rest in peace my friend you will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with George/ Doonie Manos at the Lancaster Host. George was the Comptroller and did an exceptional job. I valued George as Executive Committee Member and admired his integrity, leadership, and hard work. We had some great basketball battles over the years and some tough rounds of golf. If George kept score every shot counted. I always enjoyed our Christmas Party at Strawberry Hill every year celebrating a great team, and another successful year that Kim and George would always attend. -I laughed this morning because George is changing the play list in Heaven -Rock on Doonie.
