Shirley Y. Gegg
December 03, 2015
After a year of failing health, Shirley Y. Gegg went home to be with her Lord on December 3, 2015. Shirley was 80 years old. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph B. and Josephine Sheaffer Styer. She was a 1952 graduate of McCaskey High School.
She was the wife of the late August H. Gegg Jr. with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2010. Prior to raising her family, Shirley worked for Armstrong. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many. She especially enjoyed holding “Camp Nanny” over the summers for her grandchildren.
She most enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her home, cooking her famous chicken pot pie, and attending her children’s sporting events. Her presence as the center of the family will be greatly missed. She was often referred to as “Momma Gegg” by her children’s friends who were always welcome at home. She spent many years of her life being a tireless caregiver for her mother and then her husband who passed away in 2011.
Shirley is survived by four children: Stephen husband of Diane Gegg of Lititz, Michael husband of Michele Gegg of Ft Myers FL, Scott Gegg of Altmont, KS and daughter Amy Gegg of Ronks. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, as well as a sister, Janet Horst of Mt. Nebo, and a brother, Terry Styer (husband of Diane), Lancaster, and 6 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Rudolph Styer.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 9-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. The family kindly asks that you omit flowers but consider making a memorial gift in Shirley’s name to Hospice of Lancaster, the Lancaster Humane League, or Salem Evangelical Reformed Church, Hellers, Lancaster.
