Shirley M. Zigment, 74
Shirley M. Zigment, 74, of Anne Ave, Lancaster, died Saturday morning, June 17, 2006, at the Heart of Lancaster Medical Center in Lititz.
She was the wife of Anthony J. Zigment, with whom she was married for 37 years this past January 29th. Born in Maytown, Shirley was the daughter of the late Martin G. and Ruth Ellen Keener Musser.
Shirley had worked as a real estate agent for several real estate companies in Lancaster, retiring in 1980. In earlier years, she had done administrative work at Franklin and Marshall College.
A passionate gardener, she was known as the “Herb Lady”, having one of the largest herb gardens in Lancaster County, which was visited every year by many people every year. She used the fruits of this garden to design wreaths and special teas. She was a member of the Mens’ Gardening Club of Lancaster, was past president of the Conestoga Herb Guild, and the DeMuth Foundation. She also enjoyed traveling and had served as a USO Hostess in years past.
Shirley was a member of the Lancaster Moravian Church, where she volunteered at the church bazaar.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 3 sons: Gregory Welsh of Lancaster, Leonard A. Zigment, Lt. Col USAF(Ret) married to Christine Zigment of Colorado Springs. CO, and Robert A. Zigment of Jarrettsville, MD; 2 daughters: Nancy A. Zigment fiancée of Carl Metzinger of Lititz, and Linda M. married to Victor Armer, Jr of Lititz.; 14 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6-8PM at the Lancaster Moravian Church, 1460 Eden Rd., Lancaster, PA. Interment in the Maytown Union Cemetery in Maytown on Thursday at 11AM with Rev. Dr. William Hosking officiating. Friends are also invited to attend a memorial service for Shirley on Wednesday, June 28th at 7PM at the Lancaster Moravian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions ,may be made in her memory to Lancaster Moravian Church, or to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
