Sheryl D. Roche, 69

September 11, 2025

Sheryl D. Roche, 69, of Lancaster, passed away with husband Thomas by her side at Luther Acres after a lengthy illness on Thursday, September 11, 2025. She was the wife of Thomas Roche for 41 years. Born in Mundelein, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Charlene (Edwards) Druce.

Sheryl was a long time member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was active with the church choir until the last few years.

Sheryl’s family moved from Grays Lake, IL to Lancaster when she was starting 8th grade. She graduated from Manheim Township High School. Sheryl received a bachelor’s degree in education from Mansfield University and a master’s in education from Shippensburg University. Early in her teaching career she taught for the IU13 agency, teaching gifted students in two different Lancaster County school districts. She took some time off to raise her daughter and then returned to teach with the School District of Lancaster.

A lifelong girl scout, she was a scout leader as well as a trainer of the trainers, helping new scout leaders on how to lead a girl scout troop.

Sheryl enjoyed spending time and travelling with her family (especially her daughter and grandson), sewing, quilt making, scrap booking, cooking, and baking and numerous other hand crafts.

Sheryl is survived by her husband Tom of Lancaster and daughter Susan and grandson Ray who live in Jonestown. She will be missed by her brother Jeff of Lancaster and sister Ann of Wyomissing, and their families.

Sheryl’s family will greet guests from 2 to 3 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3 PM on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Interment will follow the service in the memorial garden.

Sheryl loved her fun patterns on clothing, sewing her own, wearing pins, scarves, or other fun jewelry. Please wear your colorful outfit or accessories to the service.

Please omit flowers and kindly consider a contribution Sheryl’s memory to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Choir, 301 Saint Thomas Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Services will be livestreamed on Saturday, September 27th beginning at 2:45 PM. To view, please click the following link: Sheryl Roche’s Livestream

Condolences to the Family

Certain people have a way of making the world a better place, and Sheryl was one of those people. Her infectious smile and laughter brightened even the darkest room. She was caring, devoted, uplifting, encouraging, hard-working, loving, and very very very patient with novice Girl Scout leaders (especially ones like me who never seemed to be able to tie knots correctly or start a campfire without smoking out the entire tent area). She will always be a very special bright star in Heaven who forever lights the way. Thanks, Sheryl

Was very sorry to read of Sherry’s passing. She was very caring and kind. Her class of students at Seiler , Elementary in Mount Joy included my son and it was the highlight of his week. My son is now 51 and we both thank her for her instruction .

Tom, Erin and I didn’t get to know Sheryl as well as we would have liked but enjoyed the time we did have. We’ll never forget the unique drive by birthday wishes during Covid and trick-or-treaters in our shared driveway. Our deepest sympathies are with you, Susan, Ray, and all Sheryl’s loved ones. Max and Erin

Tom, Susan, Ray, Jeff, and Ann- I was surprised to learn of Sheryl’s illness and deeply saddened to read of her passing today. Sheryl and I knew one another as we grew up in the St. Thomas congregation, but my father (George Hook) knew her best, and adored her from their many years of service to the church choir ministry …I’m certain they are now re-united in the choir of angels.
I’m you wishing you peace and sending my heartfelt condolences from Lake Frederick, VA,
Marcia Hook Meikrantz

I wish I could be there to celebrate Sheryl’s life.   We shared so much trhriugh Scouts and education over the years. She was the recipient of one of my mother’s quilted pillows when my mother passed in 2009.   Enjoyed visiting with her when she and Tom lived in downtown Lancaster and then later in Chicago.

I’m sorry to hear that Sherry’s gone.  I can’t imagine my Pennsylvania family without her!  She was always what I thought of when I heard “Pennsylvania”. I loved my vision of her always creating, whether it was working with fabric or food.  She had such a subtle sense of humor, always valued in a family that loves to laugh! She was a treasure.  I like to think of her laughing with all of those who left us before her.  It’s a good thought and makes my heart smile. Tammy Luth
