Ruth A. Meyferth Burns, 97, died Monday September 8, 2025 after a short illness.

She was a long time resident of both Lancaster County and Stratford, New Jersey.

She worked at First People’s Bank of New Jersey and Wilbur Chocolates in Lititz.

She spent many summers at the Delaware seashore. She enjoyed flower arranging, gardening, and crafting. She was an excellent cook and seamstress.

Following her retirement she spent several years traveling across the country in a motor home. She loved nature and spent time during her last year’s painting birdhouses for a nonprofit organization.

She resided with her sister Mary Ann Gilgore of York for the past two years and her family would like to give special thanks to Mary Ann, expressing their eternal gratitude for all she did for Ruth.

Ruth was born in Lancaster on January 18, 1928. She was the eldest of seven children born to Edna V. Mowrey Brenner and Irvin H. Brenner.

She is survived by her son Douglas E. Steinmetz, married to Mary Beth Steinmetz; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; her sister Mary Ann Gilgore married to the late William Gilgore; two brothers, Harold E. Brenner married to Trudy Brenner and Irvin H. Brenner, Jr. married to Betty Brenner; and many nieces and nephews.

Her husband of 38 years, Francis J. Meyferth died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Donna L. Schairer Witmer; her brother Donald M. Brenner and his wife Shirley; her sister Nancy Thompson and her husband Jack; and, her sister Betty Lou Dorsey and her husband Tom.

Ruth’s memorial service will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory (3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543) in Lititz on Saturday October 4, 2025 at 11:30 AM.
