Roy D. Metzler, 87

Roy D. Metzler, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29, 2013. He was a resident of Evergreen Estates and formerly of Strasburg. Born in Strasburg Twp., Roy was the son of the late Abram H. and Myrtle Deiter Metzler.
Roy was a man of dedication, wholeheartedly committed to God, his wife and family. We’ll miss Roy’s faithful prayers for his family. He was an active member of New Providence Mennonite Church. In the past he taught Sunday School, was superintendent and served as deacon for 19 years.
He was co-founder of Metzler Home Builders with his father and retired in 1988. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and traveling. Serving with We Care Prison Ministry, Mennonite Disaster Service, Habitat For Humanity and Camp Andrews brought him much fulfillment.
Roy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathryn (Mellinger) Metzler; three children: Linda, wife of Donald Sauder of Lancaster, Daniel, husband of Janet (Stoltzfus) Metzler of Lancaster and Gerald, husband of Susan (Smoker) Metzler of Tioga County; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Ivan, husband of Anna Metzler of Strasburg, Earl, husband of Louise Metzler of Quarryville and Elvin, husband of Nelda Metzler of Perkasie; and brother-in-law Michael Rivera of Puerto Rico. Roy was preceded in death by his daughter Carolyn Metzler and two sisters Verna Rivera and Janet Metzler.
Funeral Services are planned for 10 AM Thursday, May 2, 2013, at New Providence Mennonite Church, 121 Main St., New Providence, PA, with Pastors Raymond L. Deiter, S. Brent Musser and David L. Weaver officiating. Viewings will be held 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, and 9-10 AM Thursday at church. Interment in the adjacent cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Andrews, 1226 Silver Spring Rd., Holtwood, PA 17532.
