Rosa (Rose) K. O’Day, 82

Rosa (Rose) K. O’Day (Mueller), 82, was granted eternal rest on October 31, 2015, at Mennonite Home in Lancaster, PA. Born on February 6, 1933, in Kelkheim-Taunus, Germany, she was the daughter of Konrad and Katharina Mueller. She met and married her husband, Roderick (Rod) J. O’Day, in Germany. They came to the Lancaster, PA in 1954. Rose and Rod were married for 61 years.
Rose was employed by the former Hamilton Bank in Lancaster for many years.
From 1995 to 2005, Rose and her husband lived in Naples, Florida. They returned to Lancaster to be close to their children and grandchildren.
She was a long-time member of the Lancaster-Liederkranz and was instrumental in organizing the first authentic German Oktoberfest in Lancaster County, held in 1973, at the former Guernsey Barn on Route 30. The Oktoberfest is still celebrated every year, now at the Lancaster-Liederkranz in Mount Joy.
Rose enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her favorite cities were Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Munich, Germany, and Naples, Florida. She loved experiencing other cultures and customs. She also enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, and board games.
Rose is survived by her husband, three children, Michael P. O’Day, Steven P. O’Day, Eileen P. Sosa, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and her brother, Reginald Mueller, Germany.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. A Private Interment will follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s memory to Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
