Ronald Lee Mentzer, 82

October 10, 2023

Ronald Lee Mentzer, 82, of Lititz, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Born in Lurgan, PA, he was the son of the late Fred and Pearl Mentzer. Ronnie married Judi Markert Mentzer on December 14, 1963.

Ronnie attended Warwick High School. He worked for 45 years as a tow motor operator at Packaging Corporation of America. He was known for his sense of humor and having a joke for every occasion. He was a huge country music fan, loved English bulldogs (all dogs), was an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia, Griswald Frying Pans, case tractors, and various guns. Ronnie enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, visiting Potter County at their family cabin, drinking Pepsi, watching Bonanza, his GTO, and ONLY liked wearing Chippewa Boots. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and was a member of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Ronnie will be affectionately remembered as THE BEST storyteller.

A loving husband, father, and Pop Pop, Ronnie is survived by his wife Judi, 2 daughters: Amy Adams (Neil) and Abby Dodds (Rob); 4 grandchildren: Dylan Adams (Jessica), Cole Adams (Taylor), Adam Dodds (girlfriend Lindsey Lefever), and Claire Dodds; 2 great-grandchildren: Tyler and Hailie Adams; siblings Betty “Toter” Hammer, Mary “Knuddle” Shue, Candy Myer, Donna Stoltz, Billy Mentzer, and Martha “Mattie” Mentzer; sister-in-law Janie Markert; and wonderful friend and second mom Betty Mentzer with whom he shared numerous cups of coffee together and could reminisce for hours. Ronnie was predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate and honor Ronnie’s life on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 222 N. Broad St, Lititz, PA 17543. There will be visitation after the service at the luncheon. Interment will be in Old Zion Cemetery.

Sending love. I will miss Ronnie. He always made me smile. I think of him giving Dylan rides on his lawn tractor (and later Adam) and how much he loved all of his family.

Dear Judi, Amy, Abby and Families:
Memories, Memories – My husband, Darrell, worked with Ronnie for many years and always referred to him as “the best” to work with ever.  And then Amy was Darrell’s nurse when he was in critical condition after a stroke and Darrell said, “Everyone in that Mentzer family are “the best”.  I’m  unable to attend your celebration of Life for Ronnie and have no addresses, but please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Ronnie since I was 13, when Judi was dating him.  He has been my friend and storyteller of all time, always loving and caring, friendly and never judgemental.  I loved him and everything about him.  I will miss my annual bulldog Christmas present but I will cherish the memories that I will always have from my sister Judi’s husband and my brother-in-law, Ronnie.
