Robert W. Doyle, 69
July 20, 2025
Robert W. “Bob” Doyle, of Willow Street, passed away July 20, 2025. He was 69 years old. Bob was born in Pittsburgh, to James and Norma (Shaffer) Doyle, and shared over 43 years with his devoted wife, Marjorie “Margie” (Lemoine) Doyle.
After graduating college from North Texas University, he entered the United States Air Force where he served for six years as a Combat Crew Commander. When he had enough of the bitterly cold winters in Minot, ND, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
Bob dedicated much of his life as a skilled Health Physics technician in the nuclear power industry. His commitment to safety and excellence was matched only by his unwavering dedication to his community.
A gifted writer and wordsmith, Bob had a unique ability to express himself with eloquence and humor. His quirky sense of humor and thoughtful nature extended to the gifts he bestowed upon others, making him a beloved figure among family and friends. Bob’s passion for Big Band music remained a constant throughout his life, providing the soundtrack to both quiet moments and joyful gatherings.
Bob was also deeply committed to serving others, regularly donating blood and volunteering with the Willow Street Fire Company, where he found his niche as a thank you letter writer to donors. He absolutely enjoyed playing Trombone with the Lampeter-Strasburg Community Band and Flipside Big Band. As a dedicated long-time member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Willow Street, he actively participated on the church’s council and property committee, further exemplifying his spirit of service.
He will be sorely missed by his wife Margie, their son, Sean Doyle of Akron, and his siblings, James Doyle Jr., husband of Joyce of Port Hueneme, CA, and Patricia Doyle of Alexandria, VA, as well as extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 600 Penn Grant Rd. Willow Street, PA 17584, beginning at 11 AM. The family will greet guests from 10 AM to 11 AM. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church at: P.O. Box 635, Willow Street, PA 17584 or the Willow Street Fire Company, P.O. Box 495, Willow Street, PA 17584.

Bob was one of my best friends at LS band. He comforted me if I didn’t feel well or was upset. WHen I needed help with the timpani he didn’t hesitate to pitch in. I will really miss his jovial spirit and caring attitude.

Just want to past along some pleasant and cheerful things I remember about my dear friend, Bob: we met at North Texas State University while in Air Force ROTC in September 1973. Bob would stay with me in Elm Mott, Texas (near Waco) over spring breaks since neither of us had the finances to do spring breaks at the beaches. I took Bob out to a country dance hall once, which he found interesting to say the least. While in AFROTC Bob and I lost our aviation slots but we stayed and got a commission. We comically referred to our off campus house as 1st Groundborne Headquarters.
I always enjoyed talking with Bob over the years. A lot of the times were while I was taking a break when I was out burning stuff behind the shop. I have burned twice since his passing and think about him while taking my breaks as I watch the fire. Bob seemed to enjoy my adventures. I enjoyed getting the little unique things/notes Bob would send, especially the Air Mail envelopes he used to send stuff in. Bob was definitely a unique guy.
I remember the time my Packers were playing Bob’s Steelers in the Super Bowl. Bob sent a card or something with a Steeler cheese grater and of course after the game I had to go out and buy a cheese grater and run over it with the 63 Ford truck so I could send it back to him letting him know the “Packers Ruled”. I hope he got a laugh once he opened the box and saw the smashed up cheese grater.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Margie and Sean during this very difficult time. Rest in Peace Bob. Love ya, Pot and Stacy Donley
