Robert Roy Finger, 65

December 21, 2017

Robert Roy Finger, 65, of Lancaster, was waved into heaven by St. Peter on Thursday, December 21st, 2017 at his home in Lancaster, PA. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of John L. Finger and the late Pauline (Scott) Finger.
Rob was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, received his Bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College and continued through the years to receive his Masters and Doctorate in sales and marketing. He served as president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 1600 Local from 1984 – 1988. He spent most of his career with PP&L. He also spent time as an adjunct professor for Lebanon Valley College and Harrisburg Area Community College.
Rob thrived when he was surrounded by friends and family who were all so very important to him. Rob will be remembered for his life-long love for corny jokes, proving Murphy’s law really does exist, beating the cat’s record of having 9 lives, standing up for those that could not stand up for themselves, and for his musical talents and adventurous spirit. He will be remembered for his many contributions to the Lancaster community but most of all for his voice. Rob began and sang in the music group, Companions on a Journey. For over 30 years, he sang and played guitar each week at St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church. Later, he lent his voice to the non-profit group, Songs for the journey singing and playing for hospice patients.
Rob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Denise A. (St. Pierre) Finger; four children, Jennifer Avery and husband Nathan, of Millersville, PA, Robert Finger and wife Nichole, of Mooresville, NC, Claire Finger, of Ventura, CA and Andrew Finger, of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Adessa, Will, Laurel, and Matthew as well as his sister, Cassie Haley, of Las Vegas, NV and brother, John Finger.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA 17602. Family and friends will be received from 9-11AM at the church on Thursday. Interment will be private in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to the Ephrata Adult Rehab Services, https://www.ephratarehab.org/give-to-ears.php. An organization that he dearly supported and volunteered to help intellectually disabled adults.

Condolences to the Family

Having moved 1,700 miles away from LCHS, I have not seen most classmates for over 48 years.  Rob always stood out as a very positive, strong memory for me based on my interactions with him at LCHS.  I am truly saddened to learn of his passing and wish his family and friends well during this very difficult time.
Blessings,

Dear Denise and family – my most heartfelt condolences to you on Rob’s passing. When we worked together at Superior Walls, his smile and energy was always contageous. It will take a long time to forget sharing a booth at conventions, working in cramped office conditions, the company get togethers at your house, and NC. Your laughter will live on with me. God’s peace, mercy, and comfort be with you.

There is a saying that people will forget what you said or what you did, but never how you made them feel. Rob’s gift was to make people feel like they really mattered. When he engaged in a conversation or a joke, Rob was truly present and in the moment with you. “Laughter, joy and presence – the only gifts you are! Have you time? I’d like to be with you.” Dear Rob – help us to pay it forward. Denise and Family, may God bless you all a hundred fold for the joy of living that Rob shared!

Dear Denise and Family,
I was just talking about Rob the other day as I was reminising about “Bye, Bye Birdie” at LCHS. He will always be “Conrad Birdie” to me and I am so deeply saddened to hear of his premature passing. Although I had not seen him in many years, I can tell by the remembrances of others on these pages that he remained a terrific guy. God bless you, your children, grandchildren, and other members of the family as you grieve your loss.
Sincerely,
Barbara (Klein) Mank and husband Greg

Dear Denise and family, I was so shocked to have heard the news of Rob’s passing tonight. I am so sorry for your loss. Words can’t express how sorry I am. He was a wonderful man and always had a funny story or a big smile. I used to babysit for his children many years ago. And just had a lovely talk with the two of you at a funeral in Sept. I hope that all of your wonderful memories that you all have of your own and the ones people share with you will keep his memory alive in your hearts forever. May God Bless you thru this difficult time and draw your strength from Him and each other. I will keep your family in my prayers. Mom sends her condolences also. Hugs and prayers. Kim McGahan

Denise and Family, So many delightful hours of practice and singing with Companions as well as the gatherings we shared.  Rob could always put a smile on my face.  He was an angel on earth that spread joy and love to many, many others. Mischievious at times.  His ministry through Songs for the Journey was another testiment of his putting his talents to work for God bringing comfort to so many families going through what you are experiencing.  He was and will continue to be an inspiration.  God be with you.  Your friend, Karen D.

Denise and family – I am so very sorry for your loss.  Rob indeed was a very special man.  My Dad loved to hear Rob sing at Mass and asked him, when the day came, to sing a special song at his funeral.  I’ll always rembember his beautiful voice on a very sad day.  May God bless you and your family.

Dear Denisse and family, I am so sorry for your loss, may the Lord comfort you at this most difficult time. Rob was very kind to us, specially my daughter Amanda, who sang with him from the age of 12 to 18 at St. Anthony. Rob encouraged her to do her best and overcome her shyness at the microphone and was a positive influence in her life at a young age.  I loved to hear him sing at St. Anthony, no one sang Mary did you Know like he did. I will miss him. Nancy Ward.

So sorry for your loss. Rob played for my mom just this past November. His beautiful voice impressed our family and we could see that mom was moved by his music in her final moments. I was a year behind him at catholic high and was surprised to learn that he sang for hospice. What a wonderful person.

Was very sad to read of the passing of Bob.  I will always remember him in Bye Bye Birdie and West Side Story.  What a voice!  Even though I was two years behind him at Catholic he would always talk to me whenever I ran into him.  He treated me like a classmate and he was always a class act.  The last time I saw him was at Country Meadows, He was leaving and I was going to see my Mom, and whe had a nice chat.  Keep the good memories close to your heart and he will always be with you.
