Robert M. Evans, Sr., 80

October 7, 1943 - December 24, 2023

Robert M. Evans, Sr., 80, of East Greenville, passed away unexpectedly on December 24, 2023, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Marlin and Marion (Ramage) Evans.

Shortly after graduating from Dallastown Area High School in York, Bob enlisted to serve in the United States Marine Corps. Serving in the Vietnam War was something he was quite proud of. He served his country until his 23rd birthday, October 7, 1966, when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. This was the greatest birthday gift he ever received. He noted that his time in the service was pivotal to his success in adulthood.

Many will remember Bob from his 42+ years working at Tastykake, where he developed quite a sweet tooth. Robert was relatable and always found a way to start a conversation or share a story. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his family, whether that was visiting military air shows, taking spontaneous trips down the PA turnpike or day trips with his kids and their friends to Knoebels or Dorney Park.

He will be sorely missed by his sons, Robert M. Evans, Jr., husband of Susan of Denver, and Todd Evans, husband of Michelle of East Greenville; a stepdaughter Nicole Bene, wife of Michael of New Jersey; grandchildren, Bryan Bene, Krista Heflin, Tylor Bene, USMC Capt. Robert M. Evans III, William Evans, Todd Evans, Kendall Evans, Courtney Evans, Anthony Hurd, and Nicholas Hurd; a great granddaughter, Aubree Barrera, as well a sister, Sara Ann Smith, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in passing by a daughter, Kristi Evans.

In recognition and honor of Bob’s faithful service, interment will take place on Friday, January 5, 2023, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Rd. Annville, at 2:30 PM. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

I knew Bob from our days growing up in Germantown. We talked a lot on the phone in later years. He was always ready to laugh and he made me laugh too. Bob was a good friend. He will be missed.

Bob was always up for some fun, he attended Logan Demonstration school (elementary) so did several friends (Judy/Sheila/me so wewent back 25 years after attending and we laughed all thru the visit because nothing, literally nothing had changed, there was a monkey bar thing in the rear yard and, of course, Bob wanted to beat us all to the top and he surely did with a big smile on his face! Tight friend, great buddy. Moose

Dear Rob, Todd, Nicole and the entire family, may God bless each and everyone of you during this time of Bob’s passing. There was one time, that Bob, Tom MacEntire and me were riding in the Cadillac (gold color) and playing music and driving crazy around laughing and were just having simple, plain fun. I will miss Bob. Big Jim and Sharon McClain. (Tastykake)
