Robert L. Henkel, 89, known to many as “Bo-Bo”, a long-time resident of St. Joseph Street (Cabbage Hill) in Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 with family by his side. Born in Lancaster, he was one of ten children born to the late J. Herbert Henkel and Margaret C. Kaetz Henkel, and the last surviving sibling.
A member of the U.S. Army Reserve, Robert honorably served his country from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.
Robert worked in several production departments of Hamilton Watch Company in Lancaster, retiring after 48 years of service. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lancaster. He traveled extensively with his sister, Catherine and was always more than happy to help drive his family and friends to any destination they needed to go. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, shooting pool, and especially loved going to the horse tracks. Robert was a Notre Dame College football fan and never missed watching or listening to a game. Robert is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great grandnieces and great-great grandnephews. He was especially close to his beloved nephew, Joe Gaenzle, who he lovingly referred to as, “Joey.” The two shared many humorous, interesting, mischievous adventures together.

Oh Bo-Bo shooting my gun at ya (insider)… You will be missed I loved coming to work and know that you’d be in the canteen having your krimpets and coffee everyday for the past 3 years. you’d smile wave we give each other the gun signal and you’d say hello and how pretty i looked. I loved the relationship you had with your nephew Joseph and the stories you’d both share with me after returning from your outing with Joe. I will remmeber you the way I last saw you. I cried when I saw your nephew because you were part of my world for 3 years. Please understand you will always be in my heart and prayers. I always wanna remember your smiling face. Hence the reason i didn’t go to the funeral I didn’t want to remember your image if it wasnt smiling like you greeted me everyday. I will miss you. see you later. Sleep in peace.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Roberts family. Robert was a very caring and afforbale man. He cared for and was so considerate of others. I will forever remember his smile and laughter. Glad I had a chance to visit with him during my last Visit to Lancaster. May he find peace and comfort in the arms of our Lord. And may he now use his wings and fly. RIP, Claudette Looker ( Richardson) Naples Florida.

John and I met Bob at Conestoga Veiw about a year and half ago. He was bowling on the computer in the family room. He was very good! John and Bob struck up a conversation and talked about Bob’s career and military life. He was always smiling. I found him to be a very sweet man, and looked forward to seeing him in the dining room on Sundays when we came in to visit with John’s Mother. Always a smile, eyes twinkling and lovely wave coming in for dinner and leaving. He was a kind soul and will be missed. Farewell to our new found friend. John and Jean

I’ll always remember Uncle Robert as being sweet…and a little flirty. I used to see him at mass almost
every Sunday. He’d always go out of his way to say hello and ask how I was doing. Such a dear soul.
I’m sure he’s having the most joyous reunion right now with his parents and his brothers and his sisters.
And I hope that in Bo-Bo’s heaven there’s a never ending supply of tasty cakes, you always win when you bet on the horses and pretty girls are everywhere you look.
RIP Uncle Robert, you will be missed.
Love, Stephanie McCrery

Robert has been a very close friend to the Richardson family. He was more of a family member to all of us. His laughter, generosity and goodwill will be missed.

I worked with Bobby for many years at Hamilton Watch. He was always such a great guy and always happy and had a smile on his face. Even after he retired he would come to see us. We all always enjoyed his visits. I know he will be missed by his family. With my deepest sympathy, Cindy Ruby
