Robert Eugene Carter, 67

Robert Eugene Carter, 67, formerly of 39 Green St., died Monday, September 25, 2006 at Conestoga View.

Affectionately known as “Bobby”, he was born in Lotttsburg, VA on July 31, 1939, the third oldest child of the late Edgin and Hazle Diggs Carter. As a young boy, he joined Zion Baptist Church in Lottsburg. He was educated in the public schools in Northumberland County.

He was the beloved fiancée of Nettie Mae Miller of Lancaster.

Bobby had worked at Anvil International in Columbia for 37 years, retiring in 2001.

He was a member of Ray’s Temple Church, where he had faithfully served as an usher for 10 years.

He was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, a loyal Phillies fan, and a great cook. His favorite hobby was fishing, but the most important thing in his life was his family.

In addition to his fiancée, he is survived by a daughter, Yvonne Irwin of  Lindenwold, NJ, and son, Leonard C. “Curtis”  married to Everlena Carter of Lancaster. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren: Lloyd McCleary, Nicole Irwin, and William Irwin.  He is also survived by 4 sisters: Dorothy A.  married to James Gordon  of Heathsville, VA; Betty J. married to Arlanda Cooper of Clinton, MD; Mary D.  married to George Noel of Richmond, VA; and Marion D.  married to Dallas Cockrell of Burgess, VA; and by 2 brothers: Adson P. married to Betty Betts of Columbia, PA, and Ray B. Betts. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia A. Wilcox and a brother, James A. Betts.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bobby’s Memorial Service on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 12 Noon from Ray’s Temple Church, South Ann St. and East End Ave., Lancaster, PA. Interment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
