Robert “Bob” Light Eckman, 92
February 15, 2025
Robert “Bob” Light Eckman, 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Abbeyville Nursing & Rehab following a fall at home in October 2024.
Born in Coatesville, Bob was the son of the late Jacob Durwood and Eva (Ross) Eckman. He graduated from Valley Forge Military School in 1953 and then worked for his father at J.D. Eckman, Inc. before taking over and becoming the owner of J.D.’s Twin Spring Farm Inc. in Christiana.
Bob was a people person, known for his love of storytelling, his expertise in cigars, he was an avid Penn State Football fan, and his enjoyment of spending hours watching YouTube videos. After retiring, he embraced a life of adventure, living in Florida, Costa Rica, and Panama before returning to Florida and ultimately settling in Lancaster in 2020.
Since moving to Lancaster, Bob lived at LongCrest Apartments, part of Presbyterian Senior Living, where he formed close friendships with neighbors who looked out for one another. Many cherished warm-weather days were spent together, sharing laughter and stories outside.
Bob is survived by his children, Barbara (Michael Frailey) Hall, Susan (Craig) Conrad, and Robert “Bobby” (Maryann) Eckman, Jr.; his brother, James F. Eckman; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Penn State Lancaster Medical Center and Abbeyville Nursing & Rehab for their care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at LongCrest, 924 West Walnut Street, Lancaster in March. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
