Phyllis D. Simpson, 85

Born in Warrington, England, Phyllis D. Simpson, 85, of Landis Homes in Lititz,  went to Heaven on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital.

She was the wife of Olin S. Simpson, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage.

Phyllis had been a homemaker and had also worked as an executive secretary at Lancaster Newspapers. Inc. for 12 years.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Her faith was of great importance to her throughout her life and she loved to read The Bible and pray for her family. In past years, Phyllis and Olin had hosted international service people from Aberdeen through the Leacock Presbyterian Church.

While a resident at Landis Homes, she volunteered and enjoyed assisting other residents in many ways. She loved to cook, garden, crochet and go to Central Market, but her greatest joy was to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Phyllis is survived by her children: Carolyn J. married to William L. Salmon III of Lancaster, her son William S. married to Beth Simpson of Bear, DE, her 5 grandchildren: Amy, Brian, Chelsea, Ian, and Gwendolyn and by her 2 great grandchildren Halle and Acacia.  A Memorial Service will be held at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel on Saturday May 26th at 1:00pm.  In Lieu of flowers please send a contribution to the Westminster Pulpit Radio Program, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, Pa. 17601.  To send an online condolence, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. To Olin and family:

I was sorry to read that Phyllis had passed away. I worked with her many years ago at Steinman Enterprises in the newspaper building. She taught me to eat watercress, which I had never heard of until I met her. She was a very lovely person with a great sense of humor.

Best wishes to you all at this sad time.

Mary Ann (Sobotor) Harnish

In memory of Aunt Phyllis: I remember her telling stories about my grandparents when she first came to the United States (all told in her wonderful British accent), her hats, and her memorable, hearty laugh. I loved seeing her at family reunions and to see her genuine affection for her family. In later years it was very meaningful to play hymns for her and Uncle Olin as we gathered around the piano at Carolyn’s or at family reunions. I am so thankful for her life and for her love of the Lord Jesus.  I will miss her.  May God bring His peace and comfort to all who loved her.
Prayers and much love to Uncle Olin,
Carolyn & Bill, Bill & Beth, Amy & Nathan, Brian & Jessica, Chelsea, Ian, Gwen, Hallie, & Acacia.

The children of Irene T. Wisehaupt would like to offer our sincerest condolences for your recent loss. We will remember Phyllis as a dear friend of our mother, Irene, who recently passed away in November, 2011.  Both born in England, they shared their love for their homeland and a joy for gardening. Phyllis was always looking out for our Mom.  She would remind us that we should always be there for her and we we took her advice to heart.  It is our deepest wish that both Phyllis and Irene have found each other in heaven and there job now is to watch over us all.  Peace be with you.

Love,
Pam, David, Denise, and Susan
