Peter Wahl Fredrickson, 67

December 13, 2013

Peter Wahl Fredrickson, age 67, of Denver PA died on December 13, 2013 at home, having lost his battle with kidney cancer.

Peter was the son of the late Evald T. (Gil) Fredrickson and the late Isabel Mentzer Mead. He was also the stepson of the late John L. (Jack) Schulz. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sydne Irons Fredrickson of Denver, PA and a daughter Karin Rutt-Houser (Brian) of Duncannon, PA.

Peter grew up in Pottstown, PA. He graduated from Pottsgrove High School in 1964. He received his Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Gettysburg College and his Masters in Secondary Counseling from West Chester University. At Gettysburg, he was ROTC and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Peter’s career was spent helping young people. He was a high school counselor at Conestoga High School in the Tredyffrin Easttown School district in Berwyn, PA. He always put his students first. He was also a high school basketball coach and led the Conestoga Pioneers to the District 1 championship in 1991.

Peter had a life-long love affair with the game of golf. He started playing when he was 10 years old, and although he never got to shoot his age, at one time he was a 2 handicap. He loved taking trips with his golf buddies and playing courses all over the country. He was also a big sports fan, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. In addition to going to football games at Notre Dame and Alabama, he attended to 1976 Montreal and the 1984 Olympics. If it was a sport, Peter loved it!

Peter was a very social person. He had a knack for putting people at ease and was always the perfect host for guests who came to his home. It could be said that he never met a stranger, because he was always at ease in social situations and so were those around him. As a friend, he was generous, loyal, and dependable. At times, he could also be very funny, as those who knew him can attest.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Peter is survived by his sister, Donna Rittersbacher (John) of West Deptford, NJ his stepmother, Evelyn Brinser Schulz of Florida, and brothers-in-law Jim Irons (Susan) of Yorba Linda, CA and Rick Irons (Lisa) of Palmyra, PA. Also surviving are nephews Tyler, Todd, and Nathan, nieces Julie and Kelsie, and Karin and Brian’s children Chelsie and William. Two great nephews also survive. He was predeceased by a nephew, Zachary.

Friends will be received on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 11AM. Private burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Pottstown will at the convenience of the family. Please consider making a donation in Peter’s memory to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the Jimmy Valvano Foundation (www.jimmyv.org) where all funds go toward cancer research.

Sydne and Karin,
So sorry for your loss. Peter was a good and fun man. We enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with you and Peter over the years. We also enjoyed popping the cork on a few wine bottles together. He will be missed.

Dear Sydne,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family.  I was very saddened to learn of Pete’s passing.  I worked with Pete at Conestoga in the Guidance Office for many years.  He was the consummate gentleman – such a thoughtful and caring individual!  And so much fun – we all had such a good time when Pete was around.  Pete always held his students in the highest regard and worked diligently for them.  I will never forget his kindness to me while I was caring for my ill husband.  Rest in peace dear friend.  God bless.  Fondly, Marci Kosiorek

Sydne,
On behalf of Carol and myself, our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to you and Karen.  You have lost a truly remarkable person and mate in Peter as well as Dad for Karen.  You Testimony of Peter could not have been more acurate.  He was truly a most kind, thoughtful and caring person.  A great friend who I have so many many wonderful memories of both on and off the golf course, of sporting events and just simple and thought provoking conversations.  Pete truly had a remarkable ability to make people feel at ease and as if he had known them for years even tho he may have met them for the first time.  PLease know that many people have a great Love and Respect for Pete and he certaintly did positively affect many.  I loved Peter like a Brother who I never really had and shared many feelings with him over our many years together.
Please know he is in our Prayers as well as You and Your loving Pete and taking care of him has been tremendous.  Love you ,Sydne and take care.  See you soon
Dave ( Pizzazz) P  and Carol
