Peter A. Cardinal, 66

Peter A. Cardinal, 66, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on August 20, 2025. Peter was born to the late Gaetano and Mary Cardinal at New York Hospital in Manhattan, NY. He attended elementary school in Manhattan, NY and went to Jr and Sr High School in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Peter graduated from the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY with the class of 1980. Peter received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1984 and had a 25-year career, in the Army, as a family practice physician. He received his Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and, after retiring from the Army, had a civilian career as a Physician Executive. Peter had a decorated career in the Army which included successfully completing Airborne training school, serving in the Gulf War and achieving the rank of Colonel.
Peter was a kind and loving GranDad who spent time playing with his grandchildren, helping them with homework and cheering them on from the sidelines. His passions included reading historical fiction, sailing, being physically active and all things West Point.
Peter was a student of God’s Word and attended Calvary Chapel. He was a Veteran Mentor for the Lancaster County Veterans Court and a member of the Red Rose Honor Guard.
Peter is survived by his fiancé Leslie, his children Cheryl-Lynn (Dan), Jennifer (Dave), Paul (Amanda), his grandchildren Taryn, Cameron, Joel, Davanna, Abigail, Jackson, Adley and his former spouse Linda.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 27th with his family receiving guests from 9:30 to 10:30 am, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.

I have many fond memories of growing up with Peter. My Uncle Tony’s son, my mother Francis’ nephew. We even made pasta once with my step dad, rolling gnocchi off a fork. I hope his children will carry on his legacy of duty, honor, and family. Vince Baccari

The Wednesday morning men’s breakfast crew is deeply saddened for the loss of our friend Peter. His calm and thoughtful demeanor was a welcome presence in our sometimes lively discussions. Peter’s medical knowledge and insight was greatly appreciated. His service to our country was admired and appreciated by all of us, and his caring and concern for others will be greatly missed. Please accept our condolences. We are so sorry for your loss.

We are so sorry Peterleft us, we hoped he knew how much we needed him as a partner in pinochle, helper in the kitchen and his calming presence. Our prayers are with his family and Leslie who got him to attend for pinochle on Mon, Wed and Thus. He is missed by all throughout the center.
