Paul C. Plastino, 84

Paul C. Plastino, 84, Luther Acres, Lititz, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008, after a long battle with leukemia. Born in Bart Twp., Lancaster County, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Giovanna (Cimini) Plastino. He was the husband of Irene H. Hudson Plastino for 61 years.

Paul graduated from Quarryville High School, where in 1942 he was selected by the Lancaster County Basketball Officials as the outstanding basketball player of the year. Upon graduation, Paul entered the United States Army Air Force serving as a nose turret gunner on the B-24 Liberator bomber. Following the war, he graduated from Gettysburg College with a BA in Business Administration.

After college, Paul returned to Lancaster County where he was a member of the business community for over fifty five years. He began with Douglas Watt Realtor and then switched careers to enter the home furnishings business with Oblenders Furniture Store. Later, in association with Bill Smith and Lou Milan they formed Home Fashions, Inc. on N. Queen St. in Lancaster. These affiliations ultimately led to a successful partnership with the late interior designer, David Owens and their opening of the area’s premier home furnishings and design establishment, Plastino and Owens, Inc. A few years after the death of his partner, Paul purchased the franchise rights to the Choice Seating Galleries in Lancaster, York, and Camp Hill. After a brief retirement in 1994, Paul reentered the furnishing industry in the floor covering area, dealing with builders, apartment complexes and the commercial market. He later sold this business to Wall and Wall Floor Coverings in Strasburg.

He was very proactive in the Lancaster community and as an alumnus of Gettysburg College. His contributions included charter president of the Lancaster Breakfast Optimist Club and Board of Fellows of Gettysburg College. He served on the boards of the YMCA, American Cancer Society, and the Fulton Opera House. Paul also enjoyed membership in the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Sales and Marketing Executives, BPO Elks, Lancaster Aero Club, Century Flying Club and the Lancaster Hamilton Club. Paul was also a member of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Theresa A. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and wife of Blaise Minns; Dr. John E. of Lititz, husband of Gayle Materna; David A. of Malvern, Pa.; Joseph M. of Seattle, WA., husband of Lezlie Tompkins. Paul was preceded in death by his eldest son, Paul Jr. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two sisters: Gina Plastino of Lititz, Pa. and Izora Bowermaster of Mt. Joy, Pa.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov.4,  at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd. Lancaster, PA with Msgr. Richard Youtz as Celebrant. There will be a family visitation and reception following the Mass. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Quarryville, PA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Paul’s memory St. Anne Neumann School Building Fund, 601 E. To the family,
We didn’t know Paul personally, but do know his sister Izora Bowermaster who was a former member of St. Philip’s choir of which my husband John is a member, and did want to send our sincerest sympathy to her as well as Paul’s entire family.  Please know our prayers and thoughts are with you.
Our deepest sympathy,
John and Nancy Straw

Irene, you may recall you and I served on the Manos Board together.  Paul worked with Bob and me as we decorated our homes in Reamstown and later in Lancaster.  We remember him as a good person, helpful and good humored. Our thoughts and sympathies are with you and your family at this sad time. Nancy Frankhouser

Our sincerest condolences to Paul’s family,
Unfortunately we met Paul at the LCC and had a common bond for the last couple of years. Paul always had a smile and that I will keep with me forever.
I jokingly called him Saint Paul and to me he is a Saint.
My husband and I will both miss him.
He talked about his family and how proud he was of each one. What a wonderful husband & father.
God Bless Paul and his family.
My life is richer for having known him!

TO TERRIE AND THE ENTIRE PLASTINO FAMILY

LEW CHILLOT SR.

Irene and family,
Joanie and I were clients of "Plastino & Owens" in yesteryears. Our home still has many ‘touches of class,’ thanks to Dave and Paul. Dave left us early and now we’re saying ‘goodbye’ to Paul, a gentleman who always had a genuine smile, kind word and enjoyed life to the fullest. His life has certainly challenged us. Paul Plastino was the personification of great integrity and unbounded enthusiasm.  He was one of those of whom James M. Barrie, the Scottish writer said, "such men are the strong nails that hold the world together."
Blessings, Joan & Henry Gibbel, Lititz

We offer the family our deepest sympathies and our prayers during this time.
Paul was a good friend and a great team mate.
With great love…
Carl and Helen Bernhardt

To the entire Plastino family, but especially Terrie:
I was sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, father and brother. While I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Plastino personally I did for several years work with his daughter Terrie. I know she admired him both from a business point of view, but more importantly as a role model in life. Mr. Plastino can be proud looking down on us now and know he did a great job in raising and guiding Terrie in her early years. She often credited her independence and straight forward thinking to her dad. My association with Terrie was better for this.
May God bless your family in this time of reflection.
Regards,
Dave Morgan

Sending my condolences to the family. Paul was a wonderful man.  He will live in eternal happiness with God.

Hi Terrie,
This is Lew Chillot, Jr. and I saw the information on the passing of your Dad in our Lancaster paper. In seeing his picture in the paper, I now realize that I saw him over the years while attending mass at St. John Neumann which is also my parish.  I am sorry for your loss of your Dad who obviously was a great contributor both in business and in our local community through his volunteer and service efforts.
I hope all is going well for you and you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Best Wishes,
Lew and Deb Chillot

Uncle Paul was an inspiration to all.  His was loving, cheerful, and always brought happiness every time I saw him.  As a child, teenager, and now a grown woman, my memories of Uncle Paul always brought and will still bring a smile to my face.  His family-first view, hard work, and positive attitude in life are footprints hard to fill, and show a man truly worth being an icon.  My love for him all the Plastino family is unbreakable.  You will be missed Uncle Paul but be assured you will never be forgotten.
Love and Blessings!
Lorraine (Lori) Plastino

Dear Mrs. Plastino, Theresa, John, David and Joseph,

Dear Plastino Family,  (Mrs. Plastino, Terri, John, Dave and Joe)
I was so sorry to read of your dad’s passing.  He was a very good friend of my dad, Bob Johnson, from back in the days of the Buchanan Luncheonette and Home Fashions and kept our family in furniture and carpet for many years.
My early memories are of him sitting at the lunch counter sharing a real good laugh or crazy antics with my dad. They sure had fun.  He always had a kind word for us kids and recognized us even as adults.
My sincere condolences to all.
Terrie Johnson Finger
(and brothers, Tim, Jim and John)
