Olga C. Goss, 87
January 01, 2024
Olga C. Goss, age 87, of Willow Street, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 1, 2024. Born in Steelton, PA, Olga was the daughter of the late Milan and Melissa (Dimich) Cvizic. She was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church of Steelton and the United Church of Christ in Willow Street.
Olga attended and graduated from Steelton High School. During her high school years, she participated in and became president of the Owaissa Club. She was a member of the Girl’s Athletic Club, part of the editorial staff of the yearbook, took part in her junior class play and was a majorette. Olga had a flare for style and was known in school for her chic and elegant outfits, red hair, and long fingernails. She was talented enough to sew some of her own clothing. She was a graduate of the Harrisburg Charming Model School. She was fluent in three languages.
Olga went on to attend Shippensburg State Teacher’s College where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and English. During her college years, she was on the Boarding Women’s Council. She was also the cabinet secretary of the Women’s Athletic Association, a member of the science club and Student Education Association of PA, on staff for the Cumberland yearbook, and was a member, and president during her senior year, of the Tau Kappa Gamma Sorority.
After Shippensburg State Teacher’s College, Olga completed graduate work at Penn State University and began her 40 year teaching career at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, where she was and still is remembered as a favorite teacher of many students. During her career, she served as the English Department Chair for 20 years. She helped students learn beyond the classroom by directing junior and senior class plays. She was also a hockey coach, drama director, cheerleading coach, prom advisor for 39 years, a past member of LSEA and PSEA and served on many other committees in the school district. The love she had shared with students did not stop at her retirement in 1997. After retiring she continued to connect with previous students and fellow teachers through lunch gatherings.
Due to her vast knowledge, Olga excelled at T.V. game shows. She also enjoyed watching cooking shows. She was an avid sports fan, particularly of the N.Y. Yankees and Penn State Nittany Lions. She traveled extensively which included three trips to Europe, three trips to the Caribbean, a trip to Mexico as well as many states in the U.S. Due to her love of Bingo, the lottery and playing the slots, she traveled regularly to Las Vegas 45 times.
Olga was a sensational cook and loved hosting Christmas Eve parties for family and friends, sharing her delicious Serbian meals. She loved flower gardening, collecting antique candy containers and children’s lunchboxes, and crafting. Most of all, she cherished her time with her family, especially her beloved and most treasured granddaughter, Mackenzie, with whom she loved to do puzzles.
Olga is survived by her husband, Richard Goss of Willow Street, her daughter Suzanne K. Mannix (wife of Jamie) of Willow Street and her most special granddaughter, Mackenzie Kate Mannix as well as her sister-in-law Lucinda Cvizic of Steelton, PA.
Along with her parents, Olga is preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Cvizic.

So sorry to hear of Olga’s passing. She’ll be in my thoughts today, along with Dick, Suzie, all those who loved her. Her Christmas Eve parties were a highlight of the season every year – the amount of work and dedication that went into that (especially preparing all of the delicious food!) showed how much she cared for those close to her.

Sending sympathy to the family. She was such a special teacher and hockey coach. Always loved to see her dress style each day in school. Definitely had style and always friendly to her students. I saw her in later years at the store and she had the same smile and personalty.
