Nelson Mumma, Sr., 80

November 15, 2025

Nelson Mumma, Sr. passed away Saturday, November 15, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. He was born in Lititz, Pa., and is the son of the late Noah and Esta Mae (Haines) Mumma.

Nelson, 80, intently loved God. Throughout his life (including his final moments on earth), he shared the love of Jesus and wanted everyone he met to know Him as Lord and Savior.

Nelson was also deeply devoted to his family. He was happiest when surrounded by loved ones at holiday and birthday celebrations, sporting events, summer vacations at Sandbridge beach, and other simple family moments.

He enjoyed fishing, reading biographies and military history, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each of whom has their own treasured memories from their time with him.

Nelson is survived by Donna (Singer) Mumma and his four children: Ron Stief and wife Jayne; Rocky Stief and wife Esther; Nelson Mumma, Jr., and wife Katie; Jennifer Stewart and husband Eric; and his sister, Marilyn Reynolds. He was preceded in death by a week by his brother, Ray Mumma.

A Warwick High School graduate and member of the football team, Nelson volunteered for the Pennsylvania National Guard before working as an engineer for the former Denver/Ephrata Telephone Company.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Nelson’s honor on December 27th at 1:00 at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church.

I admired Nelson’s commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and his burden for those who have not understood the Prrson and Work of Christ. He was a role model for me in my early years of learning how to follow the Lord.
Thank you, Nelson! I am sure you heard those precious words; ” Welcome home, good and faithful servant!”

Nelson and Donna lived across the street from us in Lititz and we always enjoyed conversation with the both of them – (even though Nelson was a Dallas Cowboys fan!).  Nelson always made it a point to say hello to our son Douglas and he enjoyed conversation with Nelson. We were so sad when they moved away. How we wish the peace and love that surrounds Nelson now will also surround Donna and the entire family.  Our deepest condolences to all of you.
