Nancy J. Pitts, 67

January 27, 2026

Nancy J. Pitts, 67, passed away at her Elizabethtown, PA, residence on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Born in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, PA, she was the daughter of Lillian M. (Adams) Steinberg and the late Robert W. Pitts.

She graduated from Peters Township High School in 1976 and earned her BA in Social Sciences at Clarion State College in May 1980. She went on to receive a master’s in social work from Temple University in 1995 and followed by becoming a Licensed Social Worker.

Nancy spent a career caring for those with intellectual disabilities, special needs, neglected and fostered children, as well as the elderly. She worked in the Pittsburgh area in social services and then moved to the Lancaster area where she continued her work for various public and private social service agencies, including Lancaster County Children and Youth. She enjoyed working with the special needs population and had a natural affinity dealing with this population.

Nancy is survived by her mother, Lillian Steinberg of Lebanon, her sisters, Betty L. Brandemarte, wife of Albert of Annapolis, MD, and Fara K. Evans of Pittsburgh, PA, two nieces, Tina Jones, wife of Randy and their children Albie and Lucian Jones, of Millersville, MD, and Nikki Brandemarte of Elkridge, MD. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, James R. Pitts.

Nancy moved to the Lancaster area to be closer to her two nieces. She enjoyed spending time with them as children and was very involved in their lives as they grew to be adults.

Nancy was raised in the Methodist Faith. She enjoyed collecting antiques, caring for her cats, bowling, and attending the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center.

Services will be private.

Nancy Potts was a good old friend. We all shared many a good time back in the day. We haven’t spent the last many years together but have many happy memories. Always sad to lose any friend both near and far. R.I.P. dear one.
