Muriel E. Kennett, 90

December 02, 2017

Muriel E. Kennett, 90, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy on Saturday, December 2, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late George E. Kennett, Jr., who died on June 11, 2017. They shared 68 years of marriage this past June 4th. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Julius A. and Mary C. Schwarz Roehm.

Muriel graduated in 1945 from Lancaster Catholic High School. She was a stay-at- home mom until her children were grown and then worked several part-time jobs, the last being with Savemart, retiring in 2008.

Muriel was a devoted Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was involved with the Women’s Club and the Legion of Mary. She had also volunteered with the St. Anne’s Brown Bag lunches and Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, and loved to play Scrabble. Her most cherished memories were of the many family vacations spent at the Jetty Motel in Cape May, NJ.

Muriel was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be deeply missed. She cherished the simple things in life and was truly grateful for the many blessings she received from her Lord and Savior.

The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers, ComForCare, and Hospice & Community Care for the excellent care provided to Muriel in her final years.

She is survived by her children: Eileen Hoenninger (Joseph) of Lancaster,
Michelle Dodds (Michael) of Mountville, Gregory Kennett (Kris Miller) of Lancaster, Jeffrey Kennett (Helen) of Lancaster, and Tammy Bechtold (Jeffrey) of East Petersburg;
10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters,
Mary Vierhus (Jack) of California, and Kathleen Fisher of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Stephanie Hickey and Denise Kennett; her brother,
Donald Roehm; and her sister, JoAnn Anderson.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of your mother while we were growing up. She always had a smile on her face! I just saw you at St. Joe’s for the remembrance service. That was very beautiful, but this has to be very hard for your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I’m so sorry for your loss, I have many fond memories Of your mother. The following is by an unknown author.
Thomas J. Casey
Your Mother kept a garden, a garden of the heart, She planted all the good things that gave your life it’s start. She turned you to the sunshine and encouraged you to dream, Fostering and nurturing the seeds of self-esteem… And when the winds and rain came, she protected you enough– But not too much because she knew You’d need to stand up strong and tough. Her constant good example always taught you right from wrong– Markers for your pathway that will last a lifetime long. You are your Mother’s garden. You are her legacy- And I hope today she feels the love reflected back from you
