I just found out that Omar passed away. He was a very special friend to me many years ago. I was so sorry to hear he passed away. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My sincere condolances on Mike’s passing. I served with Mike in the engine room aboard the USS Sandlance. For six years he was my trainingmate, roommate, shipmate, and, most of all, good friend. On the tribute video, I am the re-enactor on the horse. Unfortunately, that was the last time I saw Mike. He lives in my memories. I had the honor of working with Mike for 16 years. I am not an Officer but worked night work in the Records office and saw him every night he worked. Such a sweet, professional, polite man and Officer. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Hello: I did not know Mike, but in a way, I feel like I do. I, like Mike, was a nuclear submariner (USS Von Steuben, SSBN 632) in the 1960s. That’s one of those bonds that count. Sorry to see him go too soon. I hope his family is as well as can be.

My name was Janet Burkey in the 1970s. I worked with Omar in the kitchen of Whitehall Nursing Home. I have fond memories of him before he went off to the navy. He was always a gentleman, even in his youth. He was a kind, calm soul. Rest In Peace Omar.

Mike was one of my “coaches” after I graduated from the Academy.  In my 26 years of service with the Lancaster Bureau of Police, he was one of the most hardest workers the Police Bureau had.  He was a great person & a friend.   R.I.P..
