Michael Murphy Tymon, 34

July 14, 2019

Michael Murphy Tymon, 34, of Lancaster, was killed in an accident early Sunday morning, July 14, 2019. A fine Irish lad of proud lineage, he was affectionately known by a single name, “Murph.” He was the beloved son of Dr. Tim and Eileen (Keegan) Tymon.

Murph attended Lancaster Catholic High School before transferring to and graduating from Vermont Academy in Saxon’s River, VT. He always demonstrated prodigious illustrative talent and pursued his passion for the arts at Rhode Island School of Design. After college, Murph lived with his biggest supporter, his brother Keegan, in downtown Lancaster.

Murph was an avid athlete from an early age. He excelled at soccer and skiing but found his first love on the basketball court. The Tymon driveway became the gathering place for local hoops legends. The epic blacktop showdowns always featured Murph at the helm, calling the plays and often swishing the game-winner. He went on to play Varsity basketball at both Lancaster Catholic High School and Vermont Academy, where he captained the team.

Although Murph loved other sports, he was always most at home on the golf course. With a backswing like molasses and his signature sway over the putter head, those who knew him best knew him as a golfer. There are few courses between Harrisburg and the Jersey shore that haven’t had the pleasure of hosting the famous Tymon foursome. Murph loved nothing more than to team up with his father and face off against their arch rivals: his brothers Keegan and Timmy.

But before the sports and beyond the tedium of the everyday, the undercurrent of Murph’s life was always his artwork. An illustrator, a sculptor, and most of all a painter, Murph was a deeply devoted Renaissance man in the truest sense. His artwork can be seen around Lancaster City, most notably the stairwell mural at Tellus 360. His art is the embodiment of his very soul, and it will bear his spirit forth forever.

Murph’s spirit also endures through his grandmother, Teresa (Abel) Tymon, his parents, Tim and Eileen, his siblings, Jennifer, Timmy and Keegan, his brother-in-law Thomas White, his many intimately-bonded aunts, uncles and cousins and an endless network of eternally-loving friends and family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Marian Keegan and Walter G. Tymon, and his maternal aunt, Patricia A. Schaffer.

The Tymon family will be receiving bereaved visitors at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Friday evening from 4-8pm and again Saturday morning at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church from 10am-11:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster, PA 17602 at 12noon with The Rev. Michael Culkin as Celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. Murph always loved the color blue, and looked damn snazzy dressed in it. Guests are encouraged to wear blue; good luck looking half as good as he did.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Michael’s memory are asked to make a memorial contribution to The Demuth Museum 120 E. King St., Lancaster, PA 17602. The Demuth is where Michael hosted his first art exhibit.

I’m so sorry to learn of Mike’s sudden passing. We were roommates freshman year at RISD, and I feel so lucky to have shared that time with him. Mike was immensely talented, but his sense of humor and calm demeanor were even more charming. The smile that would take over his charcoal smudged face will always stay with me.

Words cannot express how heartbroken we are by the loss of Murph – the realest of friends, a good man and inspiration to all for daring to dig deep inside himself in pursuit of his passions. I’ll forever celebrate his kinship in art, sports and all-around rad perspective on life through his sly smile and laugh out loud quips. My family is forever grateful for your family’s friendship, generosity and light you bring to the community. You have all of our love. An artist’s work is never done, so I look forward to seeing what spectacular pieces Murph has created when we meet again some day.Love, James & The Rudy Family

July 22, 2019

Both of my children knew Mike while he was a student at LCHS, and I had occasion to scrub along side Dr. Tymon in the OR in the early 2000’s. My family sends our sincerest sympathies to the entire Tymon family, a loss so great is beyond words to comfort. We lost our son tragically in 2009, and share the journey you are now beginning. Please know God has continued to bless our family as I know he will yours in the days, weeks, months and years to come – you are never alone. Prayers for peace and healing.  The Lefever Family

July 22, 2019

Dear Tim and Eileen,
I was devastated to learn of this accident and your son’s death.  You will not likely remember me but I know you will remember my mother Amanda (Kaye) Wolgemuth, you family’s nanny of many years.  As fate will have it I now live in New York City with my husband, children and new grandson Connor (a good Irish name).  We have a weekend home in……Southampton.  We did not see last week’s local paper or would have realized the connection sooner.  My brother Kent (also living in NYC) shared the news with our family– Kirk, Wayd and Roxie–upon hearing it from Todd who still  lives in our family homestead after our mother died.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Debra Wolgemuth

I wish you all some comfort & peace, it won’t be an easy road but I pray you find strength in each other.
Love, Suzy Keegan & family.

My whole heart goes out to you Eileen, Tim, Jenny, Keegan, Timmy, Tom and all of Murph’s devoted friends and family. Murph was one of those rare souls we do not often get the privilege and opportunity to meet in life, someone that makes a true and lasting impression that cannot be forgotten. One of the kindest, warmest and most fascinating people I have ever met, when he spoke he made you feel like you were the only person in the room. I will be forever grateful I got to be his dance partner, even if only for a few days, and will treasure the memories always.

All my love to you all,

Lauren Batchelor xxx

Dr. & Mrs. Tymon, Tim, Jr., Keegan, Jennifer & Thomas, I can’t even imagine the pain that you are feeling due to the loss of Mike. My son, Joe Dennison, and Mike have been close friends since their Catholic High days. Any time that Joe had friends over at our house, Mike was always among them. My best memories of Mike are that he always had a quiet, laid back, well mannered, friendly way about him. His smile was a sincere one. Joe and Mike spent a lot of time with each other, playing pool, sitting out at the pool, and getting together with other close friends. Joe told me that he treasured their long, deep conversations. They could trust each other with their shared feelings. Mike and Keegan helped Joe move my furniture to my new residence at the end of June. I am praying for each of you and other family members and for Mike’s many friends during this sad time of your loss of Mike. May you feel God’s presence surround you with His awesome love. And may your treasured memories sustain uou.

July 19, 2019

I am so stunned and saddened to hear this news. Tymon and I went to RISD together and was always such a great friend (I cherished that friendship, while most girls were swooning over him as one of the few attractive straight men at art school :). While our friendship over the past decade post-graduation has been mostly from a distance, every time we’ve met up it has felt like no time has passed at all. He was just out in New York this December and what was meant to be one night in the city extended to a weekend, and a wonderful time catching up and reminiscing. I was so glad he called, and to have him back in my life. I realized how much I missed my friend, how easy he was to talk to, and how many unique experiences we shared in our short lives, he was exactly how I remembered him.  He showed up to my work about 5hrs after he thought he would be there. He decided to walk from the upper east side down to SOHO, not really knowing where he was going. He wandered off path to stop by the Whitney Museum and explore some galleries in Chelsea. His phone died on the way and he was asking strangers for directions to Boom street (instead of Broome street :). Somehow he found me. He was the most himself person I knew, floating around life following exactly what made him happy and making it work in order to follow his passions. I was in awe. I am so grateful I had that last time to catch up with him. So bittersweet. No condolences could ease a void like this, but thinking of him and of you, for what its worth.

The news of Murph’s passing was like a slap in the face. My mind’s counter was: “No, there must be some mistake.” But then the gravity of the words took root and time seemed to halt.
I can’t help but imagine him beachside, perhaps on a boardwalk, painting a mural for the Lord. Till I see you again, love you buddy.

Dr. And Mrs. Tymon, Jen, Timmy, and Keegan,
The heart hurts to write this. Mike was such a gentle and kind soul.  He truly was one of the most brilliant minds to speak with when we serendipitously ran into each other around town.  Always pensive with a bit of Irish wit and humor.  His incredible artwork will leave an indelible footprint in Lancaster.   A childhood friend to surely miss for a lifetime.
With love and comfort,

Murph was one of the few people on Earth with whom I could discuss philosophy and/or theology. Murph’s creative thought process, and the alacrity of his statements, were as challenging as they were stunning; and he delivered them with a smile. Heaven is now a better place, but Earth is for sure going to have the blues for a very long time. My heart breaks for Murph’s family, and for so many of his friends that he regarded as such. Vaya con Diós, amigo.

July 18, 2019

Dear Tim and Eileen and the entire Tymon family,
I had the privilege of working with Mike for three short months in 2017 and in that time I came to know him as a brilliant, sensitive, and artistic young man. It was so clear that God created Mike to be a fine artist, and Mike was so passionate about expressing himself artistically, he simply couldn’t not make space in his life to paint.    God made Mike like no other, and I, for one, have been blessed that our paths crossed albeit for such a brief time.  He enriched my life and he will live on through his art and the impact that he made on others.  Please accept my most sincere condolences.  I pray for all you who will mourn Mike’s passing in the days, months, and years ahead.  May you experience that peace that only God can give.   Most sincerely, Dr. Kristen Albert
