Mary S. Phelan

Mary S. Phelan, 102, of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, formerly of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7th,2008. Born in Central Manor, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Carrie ( Frey) Shank. She was the wife of the late Joseph W. Phelan who died in 1970.

Mary worked at the former Hamilton Watch Factory in her earlier years, and then at Hager’s Dept. store until its close. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a former member of its Auxiliary, as well as Sacred Heart Hospitality Club. In addition, Mary belonged to several Senior Centers where she performed with the Mel – O – Dears as well as the Quack Quack entertainment groups.

Surviving is a daughter, Dolores A, wife of Matthew P. Gegg of Bausman, two granddaughters, Stephanie A, wife of Steven A. Bradshaw of Mechanicsburg and Michele A, wife of Shawn Legge of Harrisburg; one great – granddaughter, Amanda Smith, two step-great-grandsons, Cody and Tyler Legge, and one step- great- granddaughter, Sarah Bradshaw. Mary was preceded in death by a son, Donald J. Phelan, and a granddaughter, Pamela A. Moeller.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at the Chapel of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Avenue, Columbia, PA on Monday, October 13th, 2008 at 1 PM with Rev. Msgr. Richard Onwuanibe as Celebrant. There will be a viewing from 12 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery, Bausman. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Mary’s memory to St. Anne’s Home Retirement Community. The Charles F.
