Marvin E. Harnish, 98
September 30, 2025
Marvin E. Harnish, 98, formerly of Millersville, passed away at Brethren Village on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. He shared 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife Betty J. (Goss) Harnish before her passing in 2008.
Born in Willow Street, Marvin was the son of the late Christ and Annie
(Eshleman) Harnish. He worked for Murry Companies for 65 years primarily as the manpower and equipment coordinator for excavating. Lastly, he mowed several of Murry’s properties, and stripped tobacco for Dave Hoover, finally retiring at the age of 96!
Marvin had strong integrity, kindness, and simply loved by all! He was well known at Brethren Village and enjoyed many of their activities. He will be missed! He was an active member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren where he served as an usher.
He enjoyed family gatherings and helping his family members whenever needed. His hobbies included playing pinochle, shuffleboard, pool, and pitching quoits, as well as going hunting and fishing. Most recently at 98 years old, he and his partner were the grand champions at shuffleboard during the senior games at Spooky Nook. He didn’t just play for fun, he played to WIN.
Marvin’s family includes his sons, Ken Harnish, husband of Linda, and Rick Harnish, husband of Andrea, his daughters, Sharon, wife of Vince Hohenwarter, and Renea, wife of Michael Snyder, and his 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Marvin was preceded in death by nine siblings.
A Celebration of Marvin’s Life will take place at 2 pm Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Lancaster Church of the Brethren. Marvin’s family will greet guests from 1 to 2 pm. Prior to this date, a private interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
